WOTC's 3-5 year plan

I think a good idea (although whether or not it would be marketable is another question) would be another setting that was more technologically advanced than your 'standard' D&D fare.

I am not exactly sure what the 'steampunk' genre really refers to, but I guess I'm thinking something along the lines of late rennaissance with strong magic prevalance. Guns could exist, but wouldn't be quite as good as more archaic weapons (like bows), if I could help it.

I'm thinking floating ships, and "modern" conveniences duplicated through magic, like telephone-like devices for example. And skyscraper-like towers, with flying creatures used as personal transport. To me, that would be cool. YMMV.

Steampunk is a style of fantasy that would be post Industrial Revolution/Victorian/Old West.

Wierd West is a style of Steam Punk. There was another game out there, but I can't remember the name. For what ever reason, I just could get my head around the rules. A Brand new d20 version would be peachy keen to me.

Ok, then steampunk would most definitely not be a Cool Thing in my eyes. But based on what I described, you could still have trains and steam technology. But make it more European. I think that would actually sell, in fact.

I would think that you could do both. The Victorian age is ripe with potential. What would make the most sense is to make a rule book and a small setting then let people go the way the wanted. Some will want the Euro feel, some will want the Old west feel, some will want both.
