WotC's Epic Insights returns with epic warlock material!

Now the question is:

Will Epic Insights once again be a regular monthly article as it SHOULD have been?

We all know the ratio of epic material presented in new releases...practically almost none. Their website is the perfect place to put up material that a small minority use in their games.

Small errata to the Master of the Elements feat:

"You gain energy resistance 10 to earth, air, fire, and water."

I'm not aware of an "earth", "air" or "water" energy type. These should presumably be Acid, Electricity, and Cold.

I think that with a large number of new classes introduced, there's clear room to do stuff with Epic Insights. I'd like to see the Tome Of Magic classes expanded into epic levels, for example, or some ideas for how a Dread Necromancer could continue once they've hit they're level 20 apotheosis.

However, I don't know if some of the derision in the quoted text is fair. I like epic material and all (I'm one of the people ever hoping for Upper_Krust's immortals line to near more than one complete book ;-) ) but there's a difference between "supporting small minority with web products" and "taking people off products that pay to support small minority". I think it's clear that high level D&D games will always be niche (hence the absence of a dedicated 3.5 Epic book) and whilst web articles are definatly the safest place to put stuff for them, it's still time out from doingthings, well, more people will like.

Still, what I wouldn't give for some ideas on what to do for Epic Level Vestiges...

I imagine some creature or spell uses them. After all, "evaporating water" is a damage type (from the dessicating bubble spell).

In this post, as well as this, Eytan Bernstein corrects his mistakes and issues unofficial 'errata' for this article. It clairifies the strange resistances as well as giving a touch of insight into the design process for these feats.

Still silent on the contradictions of full round or standard action summoning of elementals for "Master of the Elements" feat though.

Now, everyone... feel the power of the Warlock love! *basks*

For low-epic play, I think those feats may still be overpowered. The concept of the warlock is a magic user that uses magic weaker than a wizard or sorcerer's, but unlimited times per day. As such, giving the warlock an 8th level spell at will as soon as 21st level seems a little overpowered to me. Likewise, a 50% misschance that is effectively always active seems also a bit powerful for merely 21st level.

At higher epic levels? Not overpowered. At low epic levels? Overpowered.

Take this analysis with a grain of salt though; I've never seen a warlock in play, and have barely a passing familiarity with them.

Actually the Warlock can get a 9th level spell by 16th level if he wants to- Dark Foresight, anyone? Several of the Dark Invocations are 8th or 9th level spells, effectively. That was why I felt comfortable giving my Alienoid version of the Warlock (a Far-Realm-flavored version) Mind Blank as an Invocation at that level. Getting an 8th-evel spell at 21st actually might be seen as a little weak, in that respect, though admittedly Demand (to use an example from the feats) is probably a little more powerful in play than that.

What- never had a PC with a Cloak of Displacement? ;)
