WotC's forum "Iconics" discussion thread (or "goobye, Lidda")

(It was Planescape, that's not as weird as it sounds!)

True, I'm currently running a Planescape campaign myself - one day they are hob-nobbing with Leminkainen, and the next day they have to find a decent catamite for Zeus.

She is not attractive. She is fun and cute. We could call this the pikachu effect. She's a 3e mascot.

Exactly. A lot of the other Iconics seem bland and not very memorable (I have a hard time thinking of more than one Regdar illustration). Maybe it's just choice of artists, but Lidda always seems interesting and usually kind of funny.

Someone mentioned fiction. Are there actually novels with the Iconic charcters?

I have yet to see a pic of Lidda that makes her look like a halfling. Usually she's just another comic book babe like all the rest. :\

Sometimes she has pointed ears, in which case she looks like a comic book elf babe like all the rest.

I'd like to see new iconics who are interesting and diverse. I think we had too many "yet another girl" pictures and the artists unconsciously pegged on the most interesting and dynamic (Lidda) and used her for more pictures. Mialee was usually too busy trying to look like an elf and different enough from Lidda to be interesting in her own right, most of the art I saw had her head oddly shaped and her skimpily-revealing outfit not ... fitting right?

I can already see how this will end:

The iconics are fired. Their gold will run out. Lidda will have to take that offer from Valar Project after all. the Revised BoED will contain Lidda in the altogether and outsell the D&D core books. And by that I mean all the core books together. PHB, DMG, MM, 1e, 2e, 3e, 4e, revisions, you name it. :p

I've got an idea. We should round up all the various iconics of previous editions, and have a neutral third party determine a system under which they can all compete against one another head to head. Winner take all!

You know, that's a good argument for all new iconics. Once we get uised to them they can have a series of IvI polls to see who wins the spot as "best <fighter/rogue/etc.>.
