Sorry, but I'm having a hard time playing 3.5 anymore. I love D&D, but 3.5 is WAY too bogged down and slow and complicated. Bring on 4E. I'm ready...

I have much confidence in 4e. Whether it will be a small improvement or a big improvement depends on the designer's readiness to slaughter revered heifers.

Bogged down?

Um, Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, and Monster Manual. You're done. How're you bogged down? It's just three books!

Oh, that's right. You consciously bought splatbooks to enhance your games yet instead of enhancing your games, it's slowing it down? Sell them back or give them away. There are plenty of D&D players out there that would love a new splatbook but can't afford it. You'll be doing the both of you a huge favor in the long run.

Sorry to rant about this, but it's really peculiar to see so many people say this sort of thing. Someone such as myself LOVES new splatbooks and can't get enough of the variety and new material while others, like yourself, are better off with a simpler set. Yet you consciously bogged yourself down with extra material and then complain about it?

I just don't understand the logic.

Emphasis on the smaller number of BASE classes, one of the 3.5e elements I truly hate (i.e., too many 20-level base classes).

Now some of the new base classes actually did fill an interesting an unique niche in the game, and I welcome their spotlight. The Warlock, Spellthief, Ninja, Lurk, Favored Soul, Spirit Shaman. Others were created to adapt new systems such as the Incarnum classes, Psionic classes, Tome of Magic, and Tome of Battle classes.

Though, I admit that some classes were better off as prestige classes. Beguiler, Warmage, Dread Necromancer, Knight, Ardent for example. While others seriously need a power boost like the Soulknife and Truenamer. Then you have your truly horrifying classes, like the Complete Warrior Samurai.
