Would A Paladin Break The Speed Limit?

And if he were a Norse paladin I suppose it would be a Fjord Mustang?

When I try to imagine how a paladin would act, I just imagine what Constable Benton Fraser, RCMP would do.

"Fraser! You're driving 20 miles an hour!"
"We're in a school zone, Ray."
"There aren't even any kids around, Fraser!"
"It's a school day while school is in session between the hours of 7 and 4, Ray. 20 is the legal limit."
"But we're in hot pursuit, and he's getting away!"
"I'm aware of that, Ray, but I'm not an officer of the law in this jurisdiction, and I have no authority to violate traffic laws."
"Oh, for crying out loud."

I'll agree with the Charger, but the Cavalier would be too much like competition. :)

Of course his faithful companion (squire) would be on a pinto.
If he takes the Leadership feat, would his cohorts travel in a Hyundai Entourage?

What unwritten code?

The unwritten code is what I call 'speed of traffic'. The loop around Atlanta has a stated speed limit of, I think, 55. If I were to drive 55 on that road during most of the day, I'd be crushed under the wheels of a semi going the normal 'speed of traffic', which is about 80. Going the speed limit could actually be a hazard, there.

I think a Paladin would, in general, go the speed limit. That also applies to most Lawful and/or Good characters, not just paladins.

Chaotic Good characters would only drive the speed limit when it suits them to do so. ;) they would, of course, take great care not to cause an accident though, because they would not want to hurt anyone. :D

Then why have them in Atlanta? Ban speed limit in favor of population control. Also ban litigation right involving traffic accident in Atlanta in favor of population control.

(And I say that, living far, far away from Atlanta.)

No, but I am of the unpopular belief that the paladin follows both written and unwritten codes of conduct in upholding law and justice (meaning doing what is right regardless of consequence and repenting if shown that an act is negligent.)

My take on paladins is the 'do-gooder' type, but I am a firm believer that 'Lawful Stupid" is wrong. Therefore in this instance, driving the speed limit is both lawful 'written' and safer 'unwritten', though much touted, and the better choice. Would a paladin speed, only if the situation absolutely warranted it, as Ranger REG said, 'in hot pursuit'. Being late for temple, though punishable through penance, is better than breaking one law to cover over a personal mistake (not leaving on time). :D

Driver's safety courses tell you to go with the flow, literally. If you are driving the speed limit while every other car on the road exceeds it, then you are effectively obstructing the flow of traffic, and effectively breaking the law. The mandate is to "drive in a safe, sane fashion, maintaining constant control over your vehicle."

Of course there is the story about the old fellow who exceeded the speed limit on his way home from work one night. The officer who finally got him to pull over asked him why he didn't stop. The old guy looked back, and answered, "Well I didn't think I needed to stop, it bein' so late, and nobody on the road, an' all. I did slow down, though. That oughta' count fer somethin'!" The officer immediately laid about the man's head, neck, and shoulders with his nightstick, and the old man begged him to stop hitting him.

To this, the officer replied, "Do you want me to stop, or to slow down?" :D
