Would a squirrel reference make you more likely to buy a new product?

Squirrels. Buy?

I once watched a "normal" grey squirrel raid another grey squirrel's nest, and run off with a hairless, screaching baby squirrel of the same species. It then ate the baby.

So unless this was a horror book I was buying, I'd say no. I tend to stay away from anything to do with cannabal squirrels (which, IMO, is all of them)

The vote tally is much closer than I could have imagined. There's some serious market strength to consider behind this issue.

Obviously no one is going to make a hard-and-fast rule about making a purchase only because of a squirrel reference. That would just be silly. But it would seem that perhaps squirrels are a small positive factor in the final decision, sort of like comfortable ambient lighting at a coffee shop or the odor of a new car -- all over things being equal, an RPG product can pull ahead of its competitors by including a squirrely element.

Squirrels are hunted down in the woods by the party while the DM handwaves the rolls for hit and damage. Then they are skinned, roasted and eaten. I dont think I need stats for that :)
Yep, start rolling new characters. Cause everyone knows the party hasn't got a chance against the squirrels. Though I thought squirrels would leave the skins on for a crispier meal.

Yer darn skippy!

Ever since we created a CHAMPIONS! game based on the Mystery Men movie...well, it was all downhill from there.

I created The Spectacular Squirrel! A normal sf/fantasy geek who was bitten by a radioactive squirrel and gained all the proportionate abilities of said wondrous creature.

Ever since then, the squirrel has become like my totem animal. Woohoo! Even had a mini made of the character and painted.

So a hearty YES for me!

Heck, if we have stats for rats and were-rats, why not squirrels and were-squirrels? If the squirrels happen to be carriers lycanthropy, "skinned, roasted and eaten" could have some interesting effects...

And if you don't behave yourself in his D&D game, he's got armies of plush squirrels looming over the game table to keep his players in line. Not to mention the flying squirrel hanging ominously right over the DM's chair...
