I would like (on DMs Guild?) an update chapter to Grand History of the Realms to cover from whenever-DR they trailed off, up to 5e's "present day".

If WotC released a new boxed set that was a page for page reprint of the original Forgotten Realms boxed set with the only changes being updates to the stats inside of it to take the NPCs, etc... up to 5E stats and standards, would you buy it? A 'Tales of the Yawning Portal' style update to the boxed set?

No, I would not buy that.

I've got the 1e boxed set, so why would I need this? To tell me King Azoun IV is a fighter rather than a cavalier?

I've got a wish for a reboot-in-1357-DR version of the setting. One where much of the territory added after the OGB is revised to be more fantastic and less historical analog. In which supplements are made without timeline advances, expanding the setting in depth and in geographic scope rather than blowing things up. Completely excising the Soap Opera of Cyric and Midnight, and probably the very concept of pantheons (geographical and racial) in favor of a more Down-to-Earth Divinity approach. But that wish goes no further than a wish, because it's a particular artistic vision of how the setting should be redone and presented for play, and would upset lots and lots of paying customers.

I bought TFTYP even though I have all the originals except Dead in Thay, so I guess I'm a sucker for this kind of thing...
But I would prefer they (a) keep the year that of the Gray Box but (b) do a bit of revision/expansion work to reflect later additions to canon, eg Netheril and the other fallen empires. I'd also like to see stats for Lashan, I think opposing his campaign in the Dalelands would make a fun starter adventure.
