Would you buy D&D mini singles from WotC at a premium price?

Would you buy single D&D minis from WotC direct if they sold them at a higher price?

  • No thanks! Minis are for potato heads with no imagination.

  • I'm not greatly interested, but I would probably get a few here and there.

  • I would be interested in purchasing unpainted D&D minis so I can paint them myself.

Not enough responses to the poll. It is only meant to support a pro-collectible point of view by collecting "no's".

I would buy singles/small packs that are reasonably priced (not premium priced). I would purchase these 'reasonable packs' often.

I picked no but only because it was the best option for me.
I LIKE the way DDM are sold now. It works fine. I buy two cases of each set, finish the missing rares on ebay or trading here. I have every mini they have made.

Since I buy by the case I have more orcs, kobolds, goblins, undead, etc. than I can use in any one encounter. The only thing I bought in bulk was 50 weretigers and 40 werebears which I bought for my kids (so they would leave my minis alone ;) ) and I only paid a total of 20 including shipping to get those.

I have no interest in themed packs, premium singles. I get everything I want now.

I voted "Yes" but that was because I voted from the front page and didn't see the actual first post. I wouldn't pay $3.00 each. I'd be willing to pay based on the common/uncommon/rare prices (and just stick to commons) which is basically what happens in the secondary market, but I'd love to be able to do that buying directly from WotC so I can be confident of stock availability, etc.

So if I need a big bucket of zombies (and who doesn't) I'd be willing to pay about $1.00 each. If I want them to be lead by a wicked-cool (and rare) necromancer mini, I'd be willing to pay a bit more for it.

Why would I pay WOTC more than what I'm already paying for the same figure? (Auggies)

Why would WOTC sell for less than they already do?

WOTC isnt a small garage business. They have little interest in selling to the indivudal, and dealing with the distribution mess that entails. I dont think people grasp that... hell, even TSR wouldnt have been interested in business that small.

For me, "its hell no, it cheaper and time saving buying in bulk"

and as a 40 year old gamer with wife and kids, who has time to paint minis? I prefer woodcrafting over painting, especially since I spent the last six months painting my 3500sf house. I would like to spend some time building an additional mini shelf rack for my next purchase of minis.

Hmmm.... Well, I guess I can't really get across what I'm curious about in a poll like this since the aftermarket and eBay already exist. This is what I'm after: I know most people (myself included) don't like collectable type games especially with something that has a supplemental use (and often a primary use for a lot of people) with D&D.

What I'm trying to figure out is would D&D Minis have been more accepted when they were first released if you could have purchased whatever you wanted at a higher price from WotC directly? I know they would never do something like this as its splitting their market, I'm just curious what people buying them would do.

Its all hypothetical, so yeah its a pretty useless poll I guess... :\

I asnwered "yes" to this one, because I've basically already done just that.
A local store sells the minis individually and I've bought a bunch of them, mostly commons/uncommons that I can easily substitute for something else (i.e goon in armor, goon with bow).

I guess that I'm probably one of the weird minority; I'm not looking for rare monsters, I just want the common ones.

And, I have to add the link to the store. My small effort to help them along.
Maybe their prices are cheaper than pazio...I don't know.

Yeah, the poll doesn't really hit what you are after. For instance, my wife is a voracious purchaser of DDMs. She has also recently gotten into the ebay market to find minis that we are missing. That being said, we would not buy individual minis from Wizards, nor would we have if they had started that way. We weren't really in the market for DDMs at that time. If it weren't for the numbers and price, we probably never would have started collecting them.

In fact, we prefer the randomization of the minis, as we get some enjoyment out of just opening the box and seeing what we got. Heck, you should have seen the sheer joy and exuberance that I exhibited when I got Warduke recently. My wife thought I had gone off the deep end.

So, my answer is no, but not because of the reason given in the poll. We would have continued to purchase metal minis.
