Would you buy Essentials if it was Digital

If you're a 4e fan, I suspect that the answer is yes. (Or at least carries a likelihood > 50%)

If you're new to RPGs, I suspect that the answer is maybe. (Say 50/50)

If you're not a 4e fan, I suspect that the answer is no. I also suspect that if Essentials was given away for free, there are folks who wouldn't take it -- simply because they do not like the game.

I don't currently own Essentials, but I do play 4e. A digital version would edge me more toward buying it. Part of the reason I haven't bought the books is extreme lack of space.

I'd rather they posted a text version of the rules for free (ala what Paizo did with Pathfinder's SRD) so that I could check them out.

This wasn't some big gift. The OGL requires the rules be open. They just put it up, made it look pretty, and let people assume it was a gift to the world.

I bought the two Heroes books because they had class info- almost all I need for 4Ed- and had they been electronic only, I would not own them.

Essentials already exists in digital format, in the sense that its rules content is included in the Compendium and Character Builder.

Packaged as an iPad-app, I would buy it. If there was a companion iPhone app, I'd buy that too.

Not actually true. There are plenty of publishers who have chosen not to open material they've included in OGL products. Paizo could have done the same with many of the mechanical updates they executed.

I won't buy any game that has any required electronic component. (Okay, any tabletop RPG!)

Had I bought the physical books for Essentials, I might have paid a nominal sum for PDF copies, but no more than that nominal sum. (Say $5 per book, or better still $50 for the set.)
