D&D 5E Would you change a monster's hit points mid-fight?

Except you wouldn't even play in their group, right? And how many times have you dissed fudging and people who defend it?

As I said to him earlier, I say to you - don't make it personal. As soon as it becomes about SA, or EW, personally, you engage people's egos, instead of their reason, and the conversation effectively stops and becomes a head-butting competition.

Well...it would certainly be diminished, wouldn't it? There's an obvious analogy here with, um, human relations and the possibility of one participant, um, faking in order to produce what, in their view, would be a better experience. No one likes a faker.

I think this may be the most tactful description of...congress that I have ever heard.

And no, I don't mean the political body. Though if you drop the adjective and made the noun plural, I would mean that... ;)

I don't know. I wouldn't say that I wouldn't play with a group of folks I haven't met. I can dig some story heavy high cinematic action if the campaign pitch sounds too awesome to pass up. If you are honest with people, then they may surprise you from time to time.

Or the DM can make sure no one is let down. Nip the argument in the bud: always say you never fudge, and do it anyway if you want.

So, uh, any chance you'll respond to my previous post? Specifically:
Edit:
To put this in a different light, SirAntoine, how would you feel if you found out that all of your players fudged their ability scores at character creation, and then lied to you when you asked if they had legitimately rolled them? Would that upset you? Would you ask such players to leave specifically because of their dishonesty? (Assume, for the sake of argument, that you are allowing people to bring in characters that they rolled at home, rather than characters created in front of you; I have no idea what your actual preferences are for how characters are created.)

I wouldn't be surprised if they had some very high scores. I would either accept their PC's as is, or edit them. They should be within the ballpark of each other, most importantly.

You truly would not mind a player outright lying to you? I'm impressed. Your tolerance for dishonesty is...well, frankly unbelievable. I certainly wouldn't mind someone admitting that they fudged their ability score rolls, as long as (as you said) they were in line with the group generally. However, given that I play online most of the time, a breach of trust at such an early juncture would at the *very* least make me question whether I want to keep playing with that person.

Then again, I've also had other games (not TTRPGs) where someone I played with cheated heinously, and even lied about doing so (though he eventually came clean and cleaned up his act). The only reason I forgave him is that he was truly contrite about doing so and actually did change his ways, though; if he had continued to cheat, I would have stopped playing anything with him.
