Don't know yet. On recent performance, I'd have to say that WotC's efforts at online support would be rubbish and not worth paying for, but recent performance may not be a reliable guide, given the serious business decisions that they seem to be taking to support this direction - of which pulling the Dragon and Dungeon licences is one, however much people are presently howling about it.

Star,

Yeah well serious it might be, but honestly...I'm not seeing any reason to believe it's going to change.

jakar,

What kind of examples do you want? I mean really what else do you need to convince you, or you just sticking with those glasses there...
No I am not, but I am willing to give them a chance, unlike a lot of people here on the board. Maybe that means I am open minded. hmmmmm

Jakar,

Right...Open minded. I think that's what people are called too when there were wars back in the 60s and people unflagging supported them too.

Nice flame there.
My point is, just do not write it off before you see it. What if they had Ari or one of the regs that posted here writting for it? would you look then?

Jakar,

Let me spell it out for you:

Ari Marmell gets money from me via d20. So does about 50% of all the freelancers that WotC hires.

That does not mean I'll be handing out money just because of who's involved unless I"m DAMN sure I'm getting my money's worth.

An online subscription mag does not seem to be a money's worth to me.

We clear?

hey back off a little there. maybe you should get some sleep or take a pill.

Well, it does seem to be of value to me, and I will check it out when it comes out. At least I am willing to give it a go, unlike most people here, or at least the more vocal ones.

How closed minded of you. Amazing really.

Yep, I'm closed minded. I'm also testy so I will say if I got personal, it wasn't meant to be.

But I will say your optimism will not be served because of the fact history supports my belief.

That's what irks me is that NO ONE pays attention to history. They think "oh it's in the past." It's not. It's a part of us and when people ignore history, they do so at their own peril.

Tis cool Mr N

I do know WotCs history as well and it is not a grand one, but if they get the right people into this one, i think they will do well.

Jakar,

That's my point. History bears out that WotC (in its current form) DOESN'T get the best people. It cherry picks what it thinks might work on the BELIEF it might, instead of actual history. Or maybe on the fake history of things that are going on now that have no basis in reality.

You can hope and believe it Jakar. I'm just too damn jaded by history to believe it.

Speaking as a writer, I don't give a rats tail for whether I'm writing for print or online. It's the pay that's the deciding factor.
In the other thread, people are talking about their spouses and parents being so proud that they finally got in print thanks to Dragon or Dungeon - and I get the impression that the vast majority of the contributors aren't pro writers like yourself. Like you suggest, writing for Dragon/Dungeon probably isn't much about the money.

An online web article somewhere isn't going to pull anywhere the same ego boost and social prestige, family pride etc. that some DM seeing their words in print did. I suspect that this is going to have a huge impact on submissions, if they even bother with submissions from the public any more.
