I can see yours points, but it is just one of those things. Wotc owns the rights to the magazines, they can do with them what they want, and there is not much we can do about it but be unhappy. Will that bring the mags back? Nope, not at all, so I so not plan to be that unhappy and to have a look at the stuff WotC bring out and see if it is worth spending my $ on.

Yes, we vocal minority are outweighed and outnumbered by the silent majority.
I think that you are dead on there. I will have a look at the stuff WotC bring out and be my own judge.

It's speculative. The question is being asked months before it will go into effect, with no details about the proposed content or price, the day that the announcement was made, with no option for "I'll wait and see."

Yea, I'd normally be in that boat but doing this at the expense of Dungeon has me annoyed. I think part of the issue to me is that around here are generally more tech (and thus PDF) friendly than the average gamer and we still have quite a bit of negative reaction to the entire concept. Linking it to the demise of long time hobby institutions was just stupid.

What until some of the above changes and see what sort of reaction the question gets.

I may try some of it. I seriously doubt they'll do a high enough quality job for me to bother paying for it.

I think that you are dead on [about EN World not representing the silent majority]

I've always heard that the RPG players that post on message boards represent only a small fraction of the market: the online die-hards, so to speak. However, the generally negative reaction you see here at EN World is being mirrored at every other RPG board I've looked at, including WotC's own.

Remember that this is an online venture that WotC is proposing. If they're getting such a huge negative reaction from the *online* D&D community, I don't think that bodes very well for a great response from the segment of the community that doesn't take the hobby online, in the first place.

The elephant in the room is that writing for a website is a lot less interesting for prospective writers, so submissions should drop dramatically - death of the slush pile. That's assuming that they're even taking submissions, I didn't read WOTC's announcement too closely.

With only a handful of designers writing, quality won't be what it was, and adventure writing is hard - you only have to look at the official adventure path to realise that. So yeah, not good news, and I doubt the website will be a replacement for this reason alone.

I wouldn't think I'd pay for it; at most I'd register for free stuff. Let them support it via advertising. :)

That said, I did pay a few $ to rpgnow recently for some old Judges' Guild downloads at $2-$3 a go, that I wanted for my C&C Wilderlands campaign. This was the first time I've ever paid for a download (I feel slightly dirty) :).

If they had substantial product I had a very specific desire for at no more than $2-$3 a go, I might go for it. And shower afterwards. :)

I just did *exactly* the same thing. Which ones did you get? I got Badabaskor (I have the Goodman version and wanted to compare), Island Book 1, and Book of Treasure Maps 1.
