Jakar,

Content won't matter crap if you can't access it properly. That's my point. It could be the greatest piece of writing EVER, but if the web designers can't figure out how to properly MANAGE it, then why bother using it?

I'm not against new things. I'm against New things that don't work right or properly.

QFT. We're talking about the same online folks who can't seem to keep a search function up and running properly on their forums after years of trying. With this kind of incompetance on display, what hope we do we have that WOTC will be able to technically accomplish this kind of access and content?

No, I will absolutely not buy "online content" (from WotC or anyone else). I hate reading from a computer, and I'm far more interested in a physical product. "e-zines"? Hell, no.

I’ve had a dragon subscription on and off now for a while and every time I let it laps because it no good and useless to me. That probably means that WoTCs' whatever is also going to be useless as well, but not cause there the big mean bad guys that took away a very mediocre publication. Adults that aren’t happy about something don’t sit around like small children and bitch. You don’t like it even without giving it a chance, fine but grow up about it.

Implementing search on vBulletin without slowing the system to a crawl is a nontrivial task. Neither WotC, RPGnet nor EN World have been able to do it without significant hobbling of the feature.

Some reasons why physical magazines are better than e-zines (and why I won't subscribe to an e-zine):

1) I never have to worry about having to read them more slowly because too many people are reading theirs at the same time.

2) The search function never gets disabled as long as I can see & read.

3) I can read them anywhere, anytime...regardless of the health of my local power grid...if there is one. (And I have it on good authority that a laptop computer can feel somewhat uncomfortable resting on naked flesh for any lengthy period of time...)

4) I will never have to download a "reader" program or buy new hardware to make sure that I'm still compatible with the new format (either general surfing or "flash" players or pdf readers, etc.)- Brain v1.0 works now and for the next (hopefully) 50 years.

"Growing up" has nothing to do with it- some of us simply dispise the e-zine medium.

I (and others) have come to that conclusion from past experience- we each find the e-zine medium flawed in some way that renders this decision to cancel the mags inherently unpalateable.

OTOH, when one door closes, another opens...perhaps some enterprising person will start up their own gaming mag to fill the void...

I voted that I expect the content to be excellent, but because I'm voting on content I have yet to see, I might be wrong. One can hope.

What I want to see is a good suite of tools, including an online character generator with access to all current and future feats, spells, classes, etc. I also would like a tool to assist me with playing D&D with distant friends online.

We'll see. If an excellent character generator is not included (or one with no content), then I will be sorely disappointed.
