Would you repurchase MM1 and MM2?

No. I can make the mechanical changes I need by eyeballing things, and do not need fluff on the monsters.

Tee only book I would buy redone is the PHB, and that would be if it were errata plus changes to the paladin, wizard and warlock that bring them more up to the correct power level.

Possibly a "Players Compendium" containing the rules from all PHBs and splatbooks together, so a player making a bard doesn't need to have Arcane Power and the PHB2 open at the same time.

If it were all one massive tome with at least one other mm included... but also only if I were cut off from the monster builder.

I print out all my monsters from there already, so there's a little less incentive.

Personally, I would like to see each class have it's own seperate book that combines the supplemental material, but also includes new builds, powers, etc.

I get the feeling that this is already essentially in the works.
The Monster Vault looks like it covers both updated mechanics and more thorough story content.

"This essential product for Dungeon Masters collects the most iconic monsters of the Dungeons & Dragons world in one handy box and presents all-new variants, including new spins on such beloved monsters as dragons, orcs, and vampires. The monsters described herein are designed to be easy for Dungeon Masters to use and fun for players to fight. In addition to combat statistics, each monster entry comes with story information to help DMs incorporate the monsters into their adventures and campaigns."

I'm definitely picking this one up.

Sounds like Monster manual 4.5

Definitely not. It's too easy to mod monsters. For standard and elite monsters it's usually sufficient to replace the damage expression. It's mostly the solos that really need to be improved and I have plenty ideas how to it. And after getting MM3, I'll have even more ideas ;)

Variant question: Would you consider using a revamped version that wasn't official - one in line with the new guidelines for damage, defenses, etc, but also redoing basically all Solos, all Minions, and some Elites to improve functionality, and in some cases specifically removing grindy or frustrating elements (Phanes, Wraiths, I'm looking at you)?

I'm curious how many people even use non-WotC stuff anymore.

I think monster books are one of the 3rd party rules crunchy things I still buy...

I can pretty quickly add them into the monster builder.

I'm not sure if the redo of the rules part would interest me as much, but if someone came out with a book filled with flavor for the other monsters in a style similar to MM3 I'd be pretty interested.

MM2 has a pretty decent level of flavor but, MM3 flavor is top notch.
