Would you repurchase MM1 and MM2?

Variant question: Would you consider using a revamped version that wasn't official - one in line with the new guidelines for damage, defenses, etc, but also redoing basically all Solos, all Minions, and some Elites to improve functionality, and in some cases specifically removing grindy or frustrating elements (Phanes, Wraiths, I'm looking at you)?

I'm curious how many people even use non-WotC stuff anymore.

I'm suspecting there isn't a whole lot of need for an unofficial version in that with MB and Compendium available we'll see useful modernized versions of pretty much all the existing monsters that really beg for it.

The thing with 3PP monster stuff and 4e at this point is that there are SO MANY official monsters that work in the tools that its hard to find a strong need for tons of new ones beyond what I can build. I mean I'm always up for interesting monster IDEAS, but stat blocks I can handle (or just reskin from the huge library). Monster fluff is nice and I might buy a book that had some excellent new fluff, but then again I'm the guy that builds his own setting, much of his own monsters, most of the fluff for everything, etc anyway.

I doubt I'd buy a rehashed MM1 etc either for basically the same reasons. It would be cool if they come out with one and if I needed a replacement I'd like it to be updated, but honestly I rarely crack open any of the crunch books anymore.

I get the feeling that this is already essentially in the works.
The Monster Vault

Exactly. And it comes with tokens. MMI and MMII didn't have tokens.

Yeah, that should be very interesting to see. November's pretty far away, here's to hoping they preview a couple things from it early so we can know if they're really changing things up.

Eh, I tend to pull monster stats from the DDI Compendium and then add my own flavor text.

What I'd like to see in terms of added value are non-obvious synergistic critter combinations, and suggestions on what terrain features play well with specific critter & capabilities.

I probably would for MM1, but I think MM2 is already pretty solid. I agree with the previous poster who stated that the MM1 heroic monsters were ok, but everything above it needs an overhaul.

I would definately repurchase a revised copy of the MM and MM2. I wish they would consider doing all their core rule books but I won't hold my breath. I feel like we'll get a new edition before they print updated rules.
