Would you suggest the Ebberon Campaign Setting? I've read some of the coolest posts, and would think it would be nice, but is learning this new campaign seeting worth it?

I'd wait until the campaign was bit more defined. Right now it's got alot of ooh-ahh to it (as you can see from previous posts), but the supplements will do much towards making it a lasting, long-term appealing setting.

Just read the Warforged vs. Dwarf fighter thread. Concensus among people who picked Warforged was due to the novelty. What happens when the novelty wears off? Who knows.

If you're iffy about it then wait for more information (supplements) to flow in, giving you a better idea of whether you like it or not.

To defuse some of the casual curiosity, Kai Lord's reasons on the previous thread involved discussion of a real-world religion and its application to certain thematic elements of the setting, which is why the previous thread was closed. If you're still curious about specifics, of course, feel free to e-mail Kai Lord.

I would definitely recommend it, and posted a similar response over on the WotC Forums just yesterday. I find myself copying stuff from there quite frequently these days... :)

You will like Eberron IF:

1) You like a setting with a strong attention to the logical effects of D&D 3.5 on a pre-industrial society.

2) You like a setting where alignment is not necessarily an indicator of action, and where monsters are not generally constrained to the alignment given for them in the Monster Manual.

3) You like a setting where divine magic is faith-powered more than god-powered, and where deities rarely if ever show direct intervention in mortal affairs.

4) You like the idea that the highest levelled NPC's are around 10th to 12th level.

5) You like a setting with a feel more similar to Doc Savage, The Shadow, and Indiana Jones than Elric, Elminster, or Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser.

If you are immediately repulsed by the above concepts, it MAY not be for you. But if the above intrgue you, then you may want to pick it up.

I highly recommend you read all of the preview articles on the Official Eberron Site, if you have not yet done so, because they are a good gauge of the world's feel.

pogre and FireLance, your emails are away too. Gez, I'll answer your PM in more detail tomorrow, now I'm hitting the sack. Goodnight fellas. :)

Hey Kai Lord,

I was on the Eberron IRC channel last night discussing some misgivings about the conception of the world as well. I would be interested in getting a CC or summary of your arguments. Perhaps I can offer mine.

Many thanks.

Note: it's not the Complete Eberron Handbook

I would recomendit only to people who want to start a game in Eberron. I wouldn't recomend it to people who just want to mine it for new feats, PrCs, spells, magic items, and monsters. I love Eberron, and one of the things I like is that all the cruch in the books is setting spicific. Most of the new spells are infusions for artificiers; the new feats deal with the action points, druid faiths, shifters, worforged, and item creation; the PrCs deal with new races, action points, and dragonmarks; magic items and monsters are simerly tied to new rules and setting elements. Thus, if a DM wants to use a new feat, then they usually wil lneed to include some other new rule.

Contrast this to FR where much of the crunch isn't tied to new rules presented in the setting itself. Indeed, I buy the FR books more for ideas and crunch than actually running a game in the setting. (I plan on running an FR game at some pont in the future, but haven't yet.)

Needless to say, I'm also interested in your concerns, Kai Lord. I'm sorry the setting didn't work out for you.

I would, and have, suggested Eberron to people. It is a great setting. I am really pleased with it.

It is Dungeons and Dragons, without all the tired cliches. I love the nonexsistance of the Uber-NPC.

Eberron is a world in need of Heroes.

Great job Keith. Thanks for spending all the time you have here, and at WOTC answering questions. I look forward to future Eberron products.
