Would your group stop a woman from joining?

Would your group stop a woman from joining?

Our group wouldn't have any problems with a woman joining, I don't think. We have a 12 year old boy at the table, so anything sexual (rare) is off camera, anyway - and I really don't think I'd want it otherwise even if he weren't there.

I think 5 straight guys might have the same general issue, though the specific reasons would be a tad different. My old Shadowrun group was guy-only. Some of the dudes had wives who gamed, but they wanted a "boy's night". Personally, I didn't think much of that, but I was single at the time.

"boy's night" is always better with women, if you ask me.

If anyone in a group of mine objected to someone joining solely on the basis of their gender, I'd get rid of them first.

I don't have a problem with "guy night", or "girl night", but I don't do "guy night"*. Frankly, I think almost everything is more fun if there are women along.

Cheers
Nell.

I too would toss out any player who objected solely on the basis of gender, but then again, I run a mixed gender game (6 guys, 3 girls). I suspect our games can get about as smutty as Ottergame's although usually a hetero-, non-furry sort of smutty... although both gender- and species-bending is not beyond my little gang of deviants. We've had the game degenerate into absurd debates about the nature of kobold phalluses and similar silliness. Frankly, the girls get raunchier than the guys.

As for "guys' night", yeah, I've participated in RPG games that were guys' nights and I've found that for most RPGs, I'd rather add the ladies into the mix. For guys' nights, my crowd perfers pulling out tactical wargames or LAN-based computer games (neither of which interest our girls)... or just hitting a pub and downing some pints.

I can understand some situations where you might not want to let a certain type of person in because the group members all feel it would detract from the existing chemistry of the group. Ottergame's game sound like such a case. Guys' night/girls' night is another. If the group or the game has a particular theme that doesn't mix well with the newcomer, I could understand why they would not want the person in that particular game.

And by frisky, I mean there was tons of in game sex.

I know many women who would love to be in a game like that; they love the guy/guy action, and would love to roll up a male character for that game. Ah, my friends...

Not once since '94 have I played in a group that didn't have a mix of genders. And honestly, I'm with the people who say they wouldn't play with a group that discriminated on the basis of gender. (Then again, I wouldn't play with a group that discriminated on basis of race or sexual orientation, either.)

I am also a gay man and would not ban anyone from the table based on gender, race or sexual orientation. I do not believe in discrimination.

I would never exclude simply on the basis of gender, race or sexual orientation for that matter. Plenty of players wouldn't suit my game, but that probably includes as many straight white males (like me) as other varieties.

Edit: I would discriminate on basis of age though, I don't have an upper age limit but I prefer players to be reasonably mature, which normally means 18+ but of course varies hugely, I knew a very mature 17 year old Swede online and I once met an adult would-be player who seemed about as mature as a foetus.

Edit 2: IME an 18 year old player who's a student, studying & living away from home is probably a lot more mature than a 19 year old who's unemployed and living with his mother.

Welllll...

My game is FULL. And then some. I actually have a 4-person 'waiting list' at this point.

But I'd prolly make an exception for a female, cuz we don't have one right now. (Though we do have a gay guy; but Ottergame's right, completely different energy.)
