Wow, They've got rules for that?

During my game last night I happened upon the rules for using grappling hooks and use rope checks.

This is not something I've ever come accross before, mostly because every part I DM uses spider climb to avoid the necessity of climb checks, and this is the first time they were without a arcane caster and with a straight rogue.

It seems like these kind of rules come out of the woodwork every couple of months in my games - a new situation comes up, and either during or after the game I happen upon while reviewing the game when everyones packed up and gone home. It got me thinking though - what other "minor" rules are there that you've picked up during your games? What are your favorite small rules that add a little more flavor without taking to much time?

My party began The Heart of Nightfang Spire last night. There was abundant use of the climb rules for catching falling characters (don't want to say more for fear of spoilers). In all, the mechanic seemed to work quite well and was a nice small touch by the designers.

Well, it hasn't really come up, but it amuses me to know that wearing major armor and holding a magic shield for 24 hours, it creates "barely visible energy fluctuations".

infinite slings.

they weigh nothing. they cost even less. and you can put a few ranks in underwater basket weaving and make all sorts of interesting things out of them.

You think that's bad, my last character wanted a masterwork sling. +150gp. Same price as a two-headed battle axe. Go figure.
