Im wondering if a wraith had the ghostly grasp feat is there any magic item that would protect it from the sun? What if he was completey covered would the sun still affect him ie full armor or something similiar?

I'm also interested in hearing what sorts of magic items are out there to protect undead from sunlight.

In 'old' D&D, the DM would just make up some magic item and not have to have all the underlying mechanics figured out.

Goggles of day would, I think, help.

Wow, trying to start an edition war? Where in 3.X does it say, "You can't just make up some magic item and not have all the underlying mechanics figured out."

There's a feat in Libris Mortis called Endure Sunlight. It allows your undead to survive in the sunlight for 1 round + Cha modifier. Rounds is a little short likely for what you are looking for, but it's perhaps a start.

I also would expect there could be a spell that does this somewhere. If there isn't, create one "like the old days." Then just adjust it so it's 3rd-level or lower and make it a potion.

Since what you're talking about is a fairly advanced wraith anyway, make it a dread wraith (or an advanced wraith) with the Lifesense ability then give it an item that generates a darkness effect. Within the area of shadow illumination, the wraith should be protected (because it is not within full sunlight). The wraith will not be affected because of the Lifesense ability.
