Wrestling coming to the Sci-Fi channel?

Mostly because pro wrestling attracts more fans than the niches that Sci-fi could ever get on its own.

That is depressing commentary. I weep for the US that wrestling is anything but laughable. (Okay, it really isn't anything but laughable, but still....)

i love it when a bunch of geek losers who roll dice have nothing better to do than mock wrestling.

its big muscled guys in colorful outfits , trash talking each other and beating each other up, while scantily clad women walk around serving no purpose.

that is to say...its EXACTLY like comic books and the average game of d&d.

now as for the actual wrestling...

GAH...that show was awful. a disgrace to ECW, and bad in general. the only GOOD part of the show was the part that was intended to be a joke.

Hopefully, there will be more one-shot losers like the Zombie to get beaten down in the weeks to come, and then they will form some sort of monster legion. I can actually see them catching on in the long run as the Zombie wound up being the best part of the show.

Nah, I don't hate wrestling. I don't particularly enjoy it, but I don't like any sports, really (not that I'm saying WWE is a sport, but giving a frame of reference).

It just falls into the category of things that I don't see the draw for, along with Survivor, American Idol, Paris Hilton, soap operas, Oprah, and a few other elements of "pop culture". It more bugs me that things I think are interesting -- like decent SciFi shows -- seem to have a hard time finding an audience, while things that make me scratch my head are hugely profitable.

Really, it's not that people enjoy it, it's that so many people enjoy it. What seems like it should be a guilty pleasure has become a mainstay.

Because we're not mainstream. It's not bad. I've always been outside of the in-crowd. Just as I'm part of the ethnic minority, I'm also a part of the genre fan minority.

Professional wrestling? Blame it on WWE (then-WWF) and Jim McMahon for blending rock-n-roll and wrestling together.

As I said before, niche networks like SCI-FI won't last long because it caters to a smaller number of interested audience. To advertisers (the folk who buy 30-second commercial timeslots from the network), why pay the same TV rate for a smaller number of viewers when you can pay the same rate on a network with the most viewing audience? Even the subscribers' cable fee is not enough. (Look at Paizo, who's raising the newsstand price of Dragon magazine to $8.00 this month.)

There are wrestling fans, some of whom hate WWE for buying the other national circuits out, may find ECW a better viewing option, especially if they stick to their old-school format, which is usually a lot bloodier and bone-breaking than WWE shows.

Vince McMahon.

Jim McMahon is the former NFL quarterback.

As an indy wrestler, I have to tell you that the debut of "ECW" (or WWECW or ECWWE as we have been calling it) totally sucked. It was "the worst show ever" to quote a friend of mine.

But the rating were through the roof -- now they have to keep them that way, which might be hard after the start they had.

From lousy matches to a woman who could not get her own bra undone -- horrible night.

Bring back MST3K I say!

I didn't want to be the first one to say it. :)

I wouldn't go so far as to say "worst show ever" (the Triple H/Katie Vick WWE show or the WCW one where the entire thing revolved around a Tonight Show parody are certainly worse), but it wasn't the ECW of old. There was more a focus on the wrestlers from WWE who were never in ECW than the actual ECW guys.

Wrestling in the US currently sucks. WWE is stale and TNA brought in all the guys who ruined WCW (Bagwell, Nash, Steiner, Luger). I was hoping ECW would be different. Oh, well, maybe it'll get better in the weeks to come. :\
