Wrestling coming to the Sci-Fi channel?

Not to nitpick too much, but the topic is after all 'wrestling' on Sci-Fi. How far off is it to mention other failed endevours from the same company?
AFAIK, that's only one of two failed endeavors, and that's because they went outside their specialty (from professional wrestling to professional football and professional bodybuilding).

WWE should just do what they're good at now, and that is to provide professional wrestling entertainment. If that means to revive what used to be their former competition, ECW, which professed to be more hardcore than any wrestling entertainment franchises (and from it they got WWE superstars like Kurt Angle, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Tazz, Rob Van Dam, etc.), then they should do it.

Sighs. I used to long for the days when WWE/then-WWF had some competitions on the airwave.

I've sat through a lot of their crappy movies of the week, but they are still bettere than having the channel turned into something it's not. I'd much rather watch Boa vs Python or AI assault than turn on Sci-Fi channel and see Law and Order or wrestling. I've been and still am somewhat, a wrestling fan, but it doesn't belong on this channel. What next? Turn on CNN Headline news and find episodes of the A-Team? Turn on the Food channel and find Boston Legal repeats?

Well part of SCI FI Channel's problem is that they have become synonymous with "bad."
I don't think ECW will hurt SCI FI any in the eyes of the public, as they've already done the damage to themselves.

Now I will say that I am a wrestling fan, and I took the news as a bad sign for ECW to debut on SCI FI. :p I gotta say though, that I am surprised to read about Law and Order being on the channel! These shows do not belong on the channel, I agree. Maybe SCI FI should just change formats ala Spike and go for something like The Fantasy Channel (might get more viewer, thinking its something totally different!)

If I ever did turn on CNN and saw tha A Team, I would be compelled to watch! :p

All of this reminds me of MTV and how its so very different now.

It's only a matter of time before SCI-FI is no longer SCI-FI.

Ain't it the truth. ;)

Yeah well at least we can be content with Immortel. It should be a fine piece of Sci-fi work from what I've seen.

But yeah it feels like this is the start of Sci-fi's decline.

ECW is affilated with WWE but much like S&SS is distributor and promoter, WWE has no control over what gets shown.
I think the original plan was for Heymann and Dreamer to have most of the control, but all the ideas had to fly with McMahon first. Seems like I just read that there's been a shift that kncoked down a lot of Heymann and Dreamer's control though.

I'm curious to know how it is though. Sadly, I don't have cable.

The Horror Channel was originally supposed to make its debut on Halloween 2004. That came and went, and then they hoped for a '05 debut, and that came and went. Last bits I read on their forums (6 months ago or so,) they were talking of the feasiblity of satellite instead of cable, if I recall correctly, and were not giving a timetable for any sort of debut.

Satellite would be fine by me. I'm really happy with the Dish system hooked up here, more than any cable system I've used.

I haven't read anything about it, but I've seen promos which clearly indicate it so, "ECW", which I don't know what stands for, but is definitely wrestling, as I've seen it during ads for wrestling pay per view events.

Many of the shows they show is really a stretch to call sci-fi. But how can they possibly call Wrestling sci-fi? I know it gets great ratings, but yikes.
As I understand it PRIDE FC just lost their TV deal in Japan. Maybe Sci-Fi is bringing in some of their fighters? Everyone knows Fedor Emelianenko is a cyborg and Mark Hunt is the result of a freaky Kiwi science experiment.

(PRIDE/MMA highlight video: "Because you can't always win... and it's never easy." Fedor is the guy about to hit the canvas head first in the very last shot. He didn't die. In fact, he won the fight. Proof positive?)

(Why yes, as a matter of fact this is an off topic post attempting to spread the MMA sport fan infection to more victims. How can you say that as if it's a bad thing? )

I was just appalled when that ECW crap came on last night. I had managed to convince myself that it was a mistake.

But I suppose there might be one advantage - if it does well enough in the ratings maybe I won't have to fear so much that Sci Fi will be moved to the digital section of the cable channels. I refuse to have one of those d*mned decoder boxes in my house.
