Xcrawl Opinions

PandaBrett

First Post
Hi There. I'm Brett Brooks, the president of Pandahead Productions, the company that is producing the Xcrawl: Adventures in the Xtreme Dungeon Crawl League game that will be shipping later this month. I wanted to throw out on this forum a simple question:

What is the general opinion of the game to date?

We've put a lot of effort into making this the best game that we can, but I want to know what fans of the d20 material think of the game at this point. I know that none of you have acutally seen the whole game, but I wanted to find out what the initial reaction might be. Maybe I can help to clear things up.

If you aren't aware of Xcrawl, please visit www.pandahead.com . If you want to talk to the folks involved in the game, check out our Delphi forum. It's free.

In any case...let's talk.

From what I have been able to piece together from your site, the preview and reading the forums, I will have to check this out when it ships. I would have been able to have a better opinion if there had been a more setting specific preview. Something with pre-generated characters, some weapons, a small Xdungeon and mabye a sample of how patrons, sponsors and the crowd work in the game.

What I read was interesting, but really lacked a mechanical preview. I think that is one of the best ways to get interest in a new type of genre/game.

I will be looking for it though, so I can really see how all my above points are addressed before committing.

I've pre-ordered it :)

Something in the idea really touched me. Maybe it was that X Crawl gives me a true reson, credible reason for a Dungeon Crawl. It gives me a good tool to keep the suspession of disbelieving.

And the extrme sport idea, with dungeon crawlers as stars, with fans, TV ratings and so on also looked promising. And if you add the DM also playing as the character behind the dungeon, man, it rocks!

So yes, I'm looking forward to it, I really want to receive it!!!

It's cool to me, it kind of reminds of the movie the Running Man, I think it'll be cool if you can really execute on the concept and feel you have from the info on your website.

I do however second Wolfx's idea, about posting some examples, sample characters, ideas, gear, that kind of thing, as not only a teaser of sorts, but a way to showcase the setting, for people who aren't familiar, or all that enthusiastic about the concept. Of course you have people Horacio, (and me soon enough) who are preordering it already :)

Well, I'm a bit overenthusiast because I loved the concept since I read it :)

But I agree taht some teasers (characters, ideas, sample dungeon) would really help publicity the setting.

BTW I'm thinking about doing a fan website, in fact it's already almost completly done, I only wait for people at Pandahead telling me if they mind if I build a fansite...

I first saw this in the latest issue of Game Trade. I preordered a copy of it at the local shop on the spot. Great concept. Finally, my interest in pro-wrestling/american gladiators type stuff, my RPG hobby, and my love of the Running Man movie all thrown together. I can't wait to get this.

BTW, I snooped around your site a bit, but based on the fact you use Delphi, I'll probably stick to the XCrawl threads here. I just can't stand Delphi forums. Yuck. :p

I already told them that, many people HATE Delphi forums (me included)...

Living XCrawl?

It seems to me that this game would make a perfect RPGA Living Campaign. Assuming you could get the same group of players to go to all the cons in your area, the idea of travelling around to take place in tournaments seems to fit perfectly with the spectator sport atmosphere of XCrawl. If the game does well, I hope yall might consider this, I think it would be really cool.

I'm very interested in this product. I'm look at it as a possible world setting for a Traveller d20 campaign. The idea sounds really cool. I'm hoping the execution of the idea works.

I was amused by the use of professional wrestling terminology in the preview (in fact I ran an AD&D gladiator game based on similar concepts in the late 80s). I should point out that the term "Turn" is being used kind of incorrectly, if you're concerned with such things. A Heel Turn (or Face Turn) is when a character becomes a bad guy (or becomes a good guy), not just the state of being aligned to one side or the other.
