XP & MSN help?

I don't really know. I can only say is that I work where part of the business is computer support and consultation... in the past 3 weeks, the number of calls for help that we get has nearly doubled and more than half the calls are problems from people that just installed service pack 2 on XP... something is just really not right (either with the service pack itself, or with how it is interacting with something ... or something). This is just based on my observations at work, I don't have any actual knowledge about the service pack itself.

MSN Hotmail uses MSN Messenger or Windows Messenger to check for new emails (which, frankly, is really stupid and a good example of why Windows is so vulnerable to attacks.) The Windows Messenger that comes with SP2 doesn't work with Hotmail, so you'll need to download the new MSN Messenger and install that. http://messenger.msn.com/

After installing it:

Go to the 'Start' menu, select 'Settings' and then 'Control Panel'.
Double-click on 'Windows Firewall' and verify that the firewall is on.
Click on the 'Exceptions' tab.
If you don't see 'MSN Messenger' with a checkbox next to it, click 'Add Programs' and select it from the list.

If that doesn't work, post here and I'll see if I can find any other info.
