XP Pro SP2: Validation Failure?! What the...?!?

Hey there sir ... I have done this a few times just recently, as I put the copy of Windows xp pro sp2 on new custom built systems. It is painless ... the only real problem is waiting to get a live person. I had no probs. Just impatience. :)

I personally believe, Mycanid, that it is the feared Cult of the iPod Madness afoot. :uhoh: Once they know you know... well all I can say is read Lovecraft and you see what happens to the narrator. :( I'm doomed!

On a more serious level, I'll check out the link Rodrigo. Thanks.

Okay, gang, now it is getting wierd. As suggested to me from a techie I pasted the following in RUN option under the start menu, %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /A in order to bring me to the validation process.

Here is the thing: Windows says my software has already been validated!

In addition: I was prompted to download and install 17 security updates as of yesterday. Now if my copy was pirated then MS would shut down the attempt and tell me I have an invalid copy. Guess what? Not only was I able to download said 17 updates but they also installed without a hitch.

And yet I still get the "You have a pirated copy." Can anyone figure this out??

Hmm ... maybe there is something to that Cthulu revenge on those who slander his mp3 players.... ;)

Seriously though, that IS strange.

I don't suppose you want to start over from scratch either do you?

No, I don't want to start from scratch! Anyway, it seems this is a problem with Windows (dis)Advantage activation and there is a loooonnnnngggg process of going through hoops to undo its self-induced mess.

I didn't know Cthulu was into iPods! :\ You know, we keep reading how the Elder Gods will return someday and re-conquer the earth. iPods are a foreshadowing!

Your install sounds hosed. In the future you may want to look at disc cloning software. Once you have Windows XP working, make a clone, then you can reinstall in matter of minutes instead of hours.

As for the iPod, that sounds appropriate. i is an imaginary number, so it could stand for anything including Cthulhu, "CthulhuPod, the best digital music player for bizarre cultists." It has a perfect zing.

I wonder how long until I start chanting....
