[XPH]Elan, LA+0?

I like the idea, they are cool, but no LA?

-2 Cha
4 hours of sleep a night
+4 racial bonus to saves for 1 pp
resist 2 hp of dmg for 1pp
+2 pp to start with
Aberration: immune to humanoid spells
no need to eat or drink for 1pp
LA+0

Now, if you're playing a non-psionic character, you might be able to make the case that Elans could be LA+0... maybe. But for characters with lots of power points?

Considering how crunchy all of these abilities are (as opposed to say, stonecunning), what do you think Bruce's thoughts were on this?

Personally, I think that every Psion power build is going to use Elan from now on. Certainly, (admitedly without playing them yet) they seem to be ultra powerful for LA +0.

Quite possibly, but then again, most wizard power builds in FR use sun elf too. Bonus PP and more uses for the rather ... large power pool than psions now have.

Of course, I don't see them being chosen so often for Wilder :).

I'd have to give it a try in game, but my "At-Glance" appraisal is that most of their abilities are nice flavor touches. In all, I think it sits at a place where it's "too weak" to be LA +1, and possibly a bit too strong to be LA +0 (of course, I feel the same way about elves and dwarves).

I'd have to run/play with it for a bit to really decide for myself.

Yeah, I actually agree about the dwarves (though not the elves, -2 CON is pretty rough).

Lets see -2 chr with no bonus to stats that sucks.
+4 racial bonus to saves for 1 pp. Well consideirng dwarves get+2vs magic and poisons(which covers most saves) all the time I'm not that impressed. Resist 2hp dmg for 1 PP its cool I'll admit, but remember they get no bonus stats that+2 con of dwarves look better to me. +2 PP to start nice if your a psychic type, abberation fairly solid low level bennie, no ned to eat or drink for 1pp a nothing advantage. Really come on raitons and water don't cost enough for this to be anything more than a flavor advantage, 4 hours sleep fairly cool bennie though they still need 8 hours of rest to reget PP for there psychic abilities so really no benefit for there power class.

Overall they got some nice bennies but there weaker than dwarves so I'm not that concerned.

That damage resisting for 1 pp (per 2 hp), is it possible only once per round? I think so. Then it doesn't really help all that much against some rather typical archer machineguns.

It's an immediate action.

Which means it uses up your swift action for the round. So yes, it is in fact, once per round.

Even if it isnt once per effect manifesting vigor is generally a much better solution (5hp/pp instead of 2hp/pp). ;)

But you can do the Elan version as an immediate action. "I take 50 damage? No (spends 25 pp) I take no damage."

Also, the amount of pp you get from Vigor is limited by your level. The amount of damage you can negate with the Elan ability isn't. But Vigor is a really good power, I admit!

And as for the stat mods, yeah, they get a -2 to CHA and no bonus, but really, if you're a Psychic Warrior or Psion you don't need CHA anyway (for power builds), so it's really like having no stat mod at all.
