Worst (or best) NPC name I ever came up with was finishing an adventure in my kitchen with an hour until game time, staring at the pantry when I had an epiphany and the mighty Campbell Boyardee was born.

I'm betting there is someone out there names Yancy that has something to do with this name...

Hmmmm ... Yancy Street ... Ben Grimm? Yancy Ben ... odds are against it being the origin as I know of no other comics to D&D connections for the old stuff, but there is a coincidence there.

Thats just terrible. Who at TSR thought either the naming conventions or the CD were a good idea. Did they think they were creating a world and mythology on par with Tolkien?

Just now while reading this it occured to me that it's quite literally possible to have a character that self-identifies as Hobbit, the Dwarf Human Elf:

"What's your name?"
"Hobbit."
"What's your race?"
"Human, but I suffer from Dwarfism."
"What's your class?"
"Elf - that's short for Evil Lawful Fighter".

I'll leave quietly...

D&D Beyond has Critical Role members offering the official pronunciations of many things, including points of contention like drow, bulette, couatl, thri-kreen, etc... So, it is still something they think about today.

How about steal the FR elemental gods? Akadi she's more interesting anyway imho.

Except...Yan C Bin isn't Greyhawk and Akadi isn't Forgotten Realms. They've both general multiverse beings known in both settings.

EDIT: Though it does look like Akadi was originally published in Forgotten Realms materials before adopted into the multiverse at large. Nope, I was right the first time. Most prominently addressed in the Realms, but first appeared in the pre-Realms Manual of the Planes.

D&D Beyond has Critical Role members offering the official pronunciations of many things, including points of contention like drow, bulette, couatl, thri-kreen, etc... So, it is still something they think about today.

I saw a list like this years ago I believe on WotC website. Not much that thought needed clarifying but fun nonetheless.
