(YBA) Lovecraft in the Cathayan Tombs

Lovecraft steps back and rubs his chilled hands. "Maybe there are things that man are not ment to know?" he mumbles to himself. "Oh heck, its not going anywhere and there are more tombs to search" but as Lovecraft starts to step away from the stone sarcophagus that nagging feeling of curiousity makes him stop. "I wonder whats in that thing." Summoning his willpower, Lovecraft steps forwards and pushes the lid open.

OOC: I know when a GM is giving a hint :) but I figure this is what he would do.

Gritting your teeth, you push hard on the sarcophagus lid. Slowly, reluctantly, the lid slides backward with a rumbling groan of stone scraping upon stone. Finally, the lid begins to tilt as gravity takes hold. With a resounding boom, one corner smacks into the stone floor, and a cloud of dust billows up from within. You peer excitedly into the sarcophagus, then recoil as a hideous shape begins to emerge!

One-armed, clasping an axe in its sole leathery claw, the mummy rises from the sarcophagus. Beneath the windings of its wrappings, you see yellowed skin clinging tightly to bone. And worst of all, upon its bony human shoulders rests the withered head of a tiger. Flaps of ancient flesh, striped with a few mangy hairs, dangle from patches of bald white skull. A sickly yellow glow brightens in the mummy’s eye sockets as it sees you, and an incomprehensible rasping noise echoes from its dead throat as it lurches in your direction.

"Oh My!! So Sorry to disturb you!! I will let myself out!"
Seeing the thing advance, Lovecraft strikes with his torch thrusting it like a spear at the undead thing.

The unicorn strikes the cavern; guards against the edge of the isle!

The unicorn carves the ruins; negates the stab of the flower!

The mummified abomination bats your torch aside with ease. As you try and hold it at bay, it slashes you for 1 hit. Clearly, its martial skills exceed your own.

(To run away, just declare you are doing so and generate a move. If your move wins, you run away unharmed. If the opponent's move wins, you run away but take damage from the opponent's move in the process.)

Seeing that he is clearly out matched. Lovecraft dives for the tomb entrance and tries to put as much distance between him and the mummy as he can.

The tsunami wracks the wastelands; blocks the onslaught of the mire!

You run for the entrance, heart pounding in your chest as its axe carves the air just inches behind you. Quick as a cat, it follows close on your heels, and as you dive for the exit, the axe blade rips through the air over your head and buries itself in the bronze portal with a dull gonging tone. When you come to a halt a few dozen yards away, you turn and watch the mummy struggle to free its weapon from the bronze. Finally it yanks the axe free and vanishes into the darkness of the tomb.

The chain carves the well; avoids the offensive of the wood!

You stand alone in the morning light, surrounded by weathered fangs of worked stone amid tangles of faded weeds. What do you do?

Lovecraft stumbles away from the tomb and its horrific occupent and he sits down to compose himself. Pulling out a apple he thinks over the events of the morning. "Well that was intense to say the least" He then gets up and brushes off the dust from his trench coat and goes to the next open tomb and enters it.

As you peer within the second tomb, you are surprised to see sunlight streaming down from above. Broad gaps in the structure’s roof admit the sun, which seems strangely muted and dim. Twisted grasses, weeds, vines and shrubs erupt from a plot of earth in the middle of the floor, their dull, barbed leaves streaked with black and red. Huge winged insects buzz between the light and the gloom. A low well opens in the center of the earthen area. Pale vines climb its walls from the well’s lightless depths.

In the shadows around the edge of the chamber, six stone sarcophagi rest against the walls, their sides and lids encrusted with lichen and moss. Two lie open; the lids of the other four remain shut.
