With a blur of motion, you render one of the soldiers unconscious with the flat of your blade. A moment later, another soldier jumps onto your shoulders from behind. By the time you are able to throw him off, you have been struck for a total of 2 hits. Another soldier takes the place of the fallen. Somewhere nearby, someone is barking orders.

Soldier #51 (3/3): The hammer dodges before the dungeon; wards off the rising of the mountain!

Soldier #52 (3/3): The fang ravages the ocean; conceals the cut of the sands!

Soldier #54 (2/3): The turtle splits the beach; dominates the energy of the grass!

Sergeant (7/7): The panther tumbles before the ocean; defends against the storm of the reptile!

(Note: I see that you’ve been tallying Hits Defeated as you go, rather than waiting to receive the total from me at the end of combat. You will not be able to level up in the middle of a combat, even if you gain sufficient Hits Defeated before the combat ends.)

Edit for clarification - I'm tallying because I just gained a gang member (1 Teaching XP = 16 Hits Defeated for Monderefal this level) and I want to get an epic power (Strategic Planner, 6 XP), so if I run from the battle to soon, I'm basically stuck real good.

With a flare of light and a flashing of blades, you smack the sergeant into unconsciousness. You follow through with a blow to the soldier you’d wounded previously, putting him down. Your gaudy display of technique leaves a small opening in your defenses, however, and a spear grazes you for 1 hit.

"Out of the way!" barks a deep, resonant voice. The soldiers before you part to admit a heavily armored knight, his green surcoat blazoned with a golden manticore bound in silver chains. He waves a glittering spiked mace in one hand as he approaches. "I will deal with this varlet!" The knight’s squire trails in his wake, bearing a sword and a lance.

Holy Battery
Requirements: Must be a Holy Warrior
Cost: 4 exp (+1 exp/Chi)
Effect: The Holy Warrior may henceforth spend experience to purchase Chi on a 1 to 1 basis. Chi is regenerated between each fight and may be spent each round to do one or more of the following moves. Chi may be spent on powers that the fighter would not have normally and powers that the fighter knows apart from the Chi powers are not affected by the fighters use of Chi.
Fist of Fury – 5 Chi
Holy Light – 8 Chi (Once per round a Holy Warrior may use Holy Light in connection with an attack. All Undead involved in the immediate fight take 4 damage if the Holy Warrior's attack is successful)
Shove – 2 Chi
Gain Life – 3+ Chi (Up to 15 Chi can be added to an attack for Gain Life. If the attack is successful, the Holy Warrior regains 1 hit for every 3 Chi spent)
Share Life – 3+ Chi (at any time in which the Holy Warrior is fighting alongside another, the Holy Warrior may renew the hits of another fighter at a cost of 3 Chi per hit renewed)
Purity of Focus – 4 Chi

Can't use Chi Strike through Holy Battery. I can understand why you thought that though, it does seem counter intuitive that Chi does not grant Chi Strike. (Although I must admit I'm kinda glad of that for a Solo Adventurer going first and negating your own powers is suicide.) The Squire and the Knight should go first.

The knight’s mace whirs through the air, shining in the morning light… and thuds to the ground as the knight staggers under the weight of your spell. By the time he recovers his senses, you’ve given his squire a sound pummeling. The spears of the soldiers around you glance off your armor in the meantime.

All around you, the soldiers start to draw back somewhat as their officers continue to regain order. Through the thinning crowd, you can see archers nocking their bows at the fringe of the encampment, and a knot of mounted troops hurriedly arming themselves. Your calculations as to how long it would take to get free of the army hadn’t taken into account the possibility of fleeing mounted troops while on foot; it seems that escape may prove to be difficult indeed.

You turn on your heel and flee, dodging the bite of spears and blades that try to halt your progress. The knight keeps pace with you, but just as you cannot shake him off, he cannot touch you with his mace as you nimbly evade his every blow. “If it were up to me,” he rumbles from behind you, “I’d slit you from jaw to groin, villein!”

As you approach the border of the encampment, you are momentarily confused, as it seems to be taking longer than you expected to reach it. Then you realize that groups of soldiers are marching in the same direction, trying to keep you surrounded.

Knight (16/16): The snake stands through the brush; fends off the offensive of the tides!

Soldier #101 (7/7): The grasshopper cautiously wounds the brush; scatters the throw of the barrens!

Soldier #102 (3/3): The weasel tramples the clearing; removes the throw of the field!

Soldier #103 (3/3): The snake brutalizes the tombs; parries the assailment of the bone!

(It will take you an additional Get Away attempt to escape the foot troops, over and above your previous estimate. If you remain in combat for too long without trying to get away, this number will continue to increase.)
