Can we stick to grown up dictionaries?

I concede that third rate lexicographers and some others use goliath as a noun to mean something or someone huge. But you should never use it as an adjective, because it isn't one.

"That's a goliath building!"

"It is goliath."

Er, no.

You'd better get a professional to look at it. Sorry. So, are you going with Goobermunch's secret holy sound explanation or are you throwing out the linguistics?

You figured correctly.

Forgive the typing. I rather like the holy sound thing for my own game, but I'm likely to be playing rather than DMing one in the near future. I hope I can sell the DM on the new name.

I can understand not liking the name because you just don't like the name. Maybe its sounds silly to you as a name. I can live with that. What I don't get is the "leave religion out of it" argument that always seems to come up with the Goliaths. This isn't the first thing used in the game that borrows something from a religion, and I don't think it would be fair to borrow from some and not others.

I'm not sure if the story of David & Goliath (or any other mentioning of Goliath) exists in Jewish Mythology/Mysticism. I know the mythology shares characters and stories with the religion, but its a separate thing (with admittedly blurry lines), and no less valid a source than say Greek or Roman Mythology.

It was mentioned in passing above, but I want to second this -- is there a height/weight chart for the goliaths in Races of Stone? Or a starting age chart? For the life of me, I can't find it, although the chapter on alternate races has one. I suppose I could just use the Feral Gargun info, but it's sort of irritating they forgot it for the new race that got a large chapter all to itself.

Whizbang, the goliath charts to which you refer appear to have slipped through the crack between chapters three and four. Click here to get to the suggestion in House Rules mentioned earlier. I've edited it following a suggestion from Ferret... and having read the feral gargun entry in the book (which I'd missed earlier).

I'm sold on the name Hruka, too. I'm just going to use it for something else.
