D&D 5E Yearly Releases Speculation Time

It's too much crunchiness for just one book IMHO, plus Monsters like Gem Dragons. I'm betting it two books, one might be a player options book and one a setting book or both are setting books.

And yeah that is in addition to Welshes book and Perkins book.

I think one will be a kind mix of Manuel of the Planes/Planescape, but with touches of MtG and the other will be a Forgotten Realms book, perhaps Al Qadim update or maybe something that includes that, but is broader.
Oh gyor, it sounds like your already setting yourself up for more disappointment ;)

Ah, Deborah Woll. Darned alliteration.
Still, not getting excited just over a placeholder "something is going to be released" until I know more. They could put Gary Gygax's name on the thing and I wouldn't care until I know what it is.

Ah, I was pretty confused there. Kate did work on Acquisitions, which wasn't my cup of tea either, but I liked a couple of episodes of DW's stream that I saw. She had some fun ideas.

From what I do know Kate is editing and others like DW are contributing short adventures. I'm excited to see what they put together.

Let's see … for the "Adventure Path," what classic adventure haven't they recycled yet?
My guess is an Expedition to the Barrier Peaks/Spelljammer crossover.

I'd be down for a re-do of the Slavers series. I liked that is featured an evil NPC party and was pretty easy to slot into an already existing custom world.

I wonder if we'll be seeing a sort of Volo's/Xanathar's hybrid, with lots of player options, but also with a significant bestiary. Or perhaps it will be mainly a player options book, but because it has psionics, it will have a few psionic creatures like the gem dragons in a limited bestiary.

Since we already have three monster focused books i'd like to see a PC Option/Magic Item split. There really needs to be a lot more (and wider variety) of magic items for levels 1-20.

I'd also be happy to have a "collection" reprint book that takes the crunchy parts of the adventure paths and campaign guides and presents them in one place. I do not buy either of those types of books but would like to have access to just the extra monsters, magic items, and rules modules offered in them.

I don't know that there needs to be THAT many more magic items, but I wouldn't say no to some more.

I'd love a book like that. PC options (subclasses, feats), Rules updates/add-ons, and Magic Items would be a great book. Maybe some spells too.

My operating assumption for speculation at the moment is that the Gem Dragons will be in the Wildemount book, since it is 304 pages long, will apparently have a ton of monsters and Mercer is a 2E era fan (heck, his friend Coleville already pushed Gem Dragons heavily). Also, Stewart said the Gem Dragons would be coming early in 2020, which would fit an Exandria connection.

While we have a hearty portion of player material in the pipeline, it is still in line with Xanathar's Guide in terms of page count.

More is coming, perhaps a lot more.

During the pre-Exandria speculation, I suggested "Laeral's Guide to Magic", which would include the artificer and psionics, new subclasses, spells and magic items both updated and new, and a bestiary of particularly magical beasts (which would logically include gem dragons).

I believe Dark Sun material is still possible this year, but that depends entirely on how the next round of Mystic/Psion testing does. An updated UA could drop next month, and if it's really good, could pave the way for a November release. However, they'd still need to playtest some defiling and a few races.

The comments Perkins made about people who liked CoS and his 2020 AP made me think he could be playing in another setting. Mayhaps that Spelljammer/Planescape AP that starts in Lantan, either dealing with Gith vs Illithids, of that Great Modron March.

A second Xanathar style book should easily be happening this year with WotC ramping up on subclass UAs. Unless, they are going in a surprise setting book!

The adventure compilation that Welch is spearheading is a sure thing, but I'm really curious about the overal theme of the adventures, if there even is one.

My wild card prediction: 5E Modern.
