My mother worked for a local cable company, "Cablescope" in the 80s and we got free cable complete with all the premium channels, so we didn't have to. She worked from 3PM-11PM, didn't get home until after midnight. Come to think of it we were left alone for a good majority of the 80s.

Other people use a year like 40 as a milestone. I knew I was a full-fledged middle-aged adult when my dear old grey-haired dad started revealing all the sophomoric 'that's what she said' and 'poles & holes' humor he still laughed at.

We used to turn those scrambled channels on in the hopes that a signal would come through. Once in a while the station would allow for a free preview. Good times.

Didn't have to. We had CITY-TV and the Baby Blue Movies. Moses Znaimer put soft-core on channel 79 at after midnight, with his signal shaped toward Buffalo.
