Yet another "How old are you?" thread

Turned 66 on what would have been February 29 this year

Few weeks ago, buddy from university called me, he's organizing reunion of our old uni class group. I asked him why now. When he said, well, it's 15 years since we graduated, it punched me right in the gut.

Everyone I made friends with and hung out with in middle and high school I still talk to and hang out with on at least a semi-regular basis now. I don't think I was in my Junior or Senior yearbooks, didn't graduate so I'd be surprised to get a reunion invite; never have. Even if I did, I probably wouldn't go, I don't have in common with most of those people. Every once in a great while I might run into someone that I went to high school or college with but its few and far between and it's nothing more than 3-5 minutes of small talk. At this point in my life, it's more important to prioritize what's important, associating with passing acquaintances from 25-30 years ago is not one of them.

Another big shocker are kid's birthdays. It feels like it was just couple years ago when i tutored my friends kid in 5-6th grade math and physics. Last week, she turned 18 and those "couple of years" is actually 6 years ago.

Even more startling is when those 6 years turn into 20-30 years. I had a really close friend of mine pass away last December and I'll look at something around the house, drive by something in the neighborhood, see something on TV or the internet, etc that reminds me of him. It's really strange how often it happens and made me realize that my life is most likely more than half over. Then again, among other people, he was one to always say, you're such a d**k, you're going to outlive us all.

That girl has as many problems with her exes as a 77 year old Mississippi Delta bluesman, and handles them the same way.

A friend of mine sent me a picture of him and his wife standing to either side of a guy who looked like a young Joe Perry (guitarist for Aerosmith). I asked them who it was.

It was their son, whom I realized at that point I hadn’t seen in a decade.
