Yet another joke name thread!

Rather than dusting off and necroing an older thread, I figure I'd just start anew with...

I've been playing drow for quite some time- predating the appearance of Drizzt by several years- partly because they were the only black race available in D&D- somewhat of an issue for me as a black gamer. (Obviously, I know humans could be non-white, but swarthy humans were virtually non-existent in the campaign worlds I was playing in...).

Because of this, they've always been near the top of races for me to choose when designing a new PC, but I haven't done one in some time.

However, the next time I DO play a drow, I already have a name for him or her: J.R.R. Token.

Wow.. Danny... I didn't know you were that way.:-S:p  I think I'll play along with your game!

I have to admit that I always wanted to play a certain character concept in a superhero game...

Pepito Paletito. A Mexican Super Hero [or mutant] with Ice(cream) based powers. A flaw in his power set causes his ice blasts to be flavored. He was sort of inspired by a character Blackrat played in my old M&M pbp.

I think that might be the unfortunate result of DMs generally taking an approach to campaign world design along the lines of Howard's Hyborean Age and arranging cultures on the map kind of like real-world analogues. The normal setting tends to default toward a generic medieval European one at least prior to 3e, so as a result most humans end up looking European. As a DM, I want to try to set up a world that allows for more diversity in case its needed without making it look like tokenism, but I have a hard time avoiding the backslide into setting up a world that reflects real world cutlures.

I've always meant to name an assassin Jeff from Abuv :D

EDIT: I found a solution to the quasi-African in quasi-Medieval Europe problem. I just had my world's equivalent of Bantu turn left at the rift valley instead of turning right.

Even drunk a a lord I can't come up with a funny character name. So dissappointed in myself.

edit: maybe not that drunk, I was able to correct (some of?) my spelling mistakes before posting this.

cheery bye

J.R.R. Token.
Have some XP for that one.

Personally, I got nothing... but here's the latest PC from the D&D campaign I'm currently DM'ing: Artur Rambo.

Needless to say, he's a deadly poet-veteran dressed in furs and camo pants with a fondness for absinthe (and terribly French accents).

If we expand the genre from D&D, I had a wookie in Star Wars d6 named "Harry." We initially created our characters for a one-shot, but we ended up playing many game sessions. As the game became more serious than a throw-away, I said his full wookie name was something like, "Haaarrraararrarariii" (say it as a wookie). For obvious reasons, everyone called him by his human/nick name.
