D&D General You Can Now Make Greyhawk Stuff On DM's Guild!

Setting opened up to third party creators.

Greyhawk_Legacy.png

As of today, third party creators can publish and sell material set in the World of Greyhawk! Dating back to the dawn of Dungeons & Dragons, Greyhawk has an entire chapter devoted to it in the new 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide.

Right now you can check out some legacy official content from Wizards of the Coast, but expect more to start appearing there as soon as the third party creators get their teeth into it.

Mystara was introduced (as the Known World) during the B/X days in the module, The Isle of Dread. It then appeared in the BECMI Expert Set, and was the setting for all subsequent modules and accessories (including, but not limited to the Gazetteers) that were published for BECMI. It was also featured in the D&D Rules Cyclopedia. It only became Mystara (IIRC) when the "Basic" D&D line was cancelled and the setting was relaunched for 2e. As a setting, it's as old as the Greyhawk (publishing-wise) and has as avid a fan-base.
I am actually already aware of all of this. My point isn't about my current knowledge, but my knowledge at the time. I had all the BECMI box sets and we played a mash up of BECMI and AD&D. We didn't realize there was a "setting." Heck, we didn't really understand that BECMI and AD&D were different systems. We used pieces and parts from both. I realize I am only talking about my little corner of the world at that time, but no one was talking about Mystara and very few (if any) were talking about the Known World.

X1 gives you a whole map of the "Known World". Other modules mention places in that world. The rules for the monsters was different than AD&D. So yeah, as a kid you just weren't very observant. That is how kids are these days. I admit I only learned it was "Mystara" later but the Basic Set setting was all over the place.

Well we ran our own setting and adventure. I owned Isle of Dread, Keep on he Borderland, and White Plume Mountain. We only ever tried to run White Plume Mountain and hated is so much that we immediately went back to our own adventures.

So it was less about being unobservant than it was about being ignorant. We just didn't play adventures or buy setting material from TSR. We were also limited to what our hobby shop carried. It simply wasn't as easy to be informed as a child back then.

To me, the foundation of D&D lore was:
1e MM & MM2
1e Deities and Demigods

That is where I got my lore from and that was what formed the foundation of our games. @Snarf Zagyg can correct me if I am wrong, but the bits of lore in those books were, if tied to any setting, Greyhawk based. IIRC all the Nonhuman's deities in Deities and Demigods came from Greyhawk.

A lot of my "generic" lore came from Manual of the Planes too.

I had that book, but remember almost nothing from it.* I most have spent a lot more time with the 3 I listed than the MotP.

*I am not speaking about lore here but specific text and art. I still have deep memories of the MM, MM2 & D&D, nothing really anything comes to mind from the MotP.
