Gollum bit off one of Frodo's fingers. That would give him 9 total.
Gollum died clutching the Ring... That would make one skeleton clutching a ring.
The Yahoo News labelled the story as "Hobbit Remains Found in Australia".
If they found one skeleton with 9 fingers, it would be a Frodo link.
If they found one skeleton clutching a ring in its hand, it would be a Gollum link.
The actual news story has nothing really to do with Hobbits, or Lord of the Rings.
