Currently, I have no diety. I will avoid getting one if I can.

I don't know why we are in Chult. We awoke in a cell in a massive underground fortress. All we know is that our enemies paid to have us kidnapped and sent here. How we gained enemies at 1st level, Ill never know. (were 2nd level now)

If I remember my FR correctly, divine magic is damned common. Where was your character born and raised? All you had to do to see a cleric in action was go to church (semi) regularly. You could remember what the clerics did in church when you were a child (even if you don't have a deity, there's a good chance one of your parents did).


The short version: 'I remember when I was in catacism...'

One of my char has no deity.
The character died and a Priest of Lathander was called in to raise him.
The DM took me aside and let me know that by all rights, I was dead forever and that I could not be raised without a deity in FR.
I asked if I could maybe make a deal in those last seconds? Promise to do good deeds or tithe to pay back?
He said 'Deal!'
Seems, I was 'talking with Lathander' without RPing it (we didn't have the time) and the char's potential to do good deeds allowed him to 'cut a deal', which my char paid with interest.

The char was warned however, that if there was a next time, he might be forced to 'take the plunge' or not come back.

Later the DM said that it was important to remember that PCs are exceptional by their definition and that they affect the world in more direct and dramatic ways (like Wheel of Time's taveren), hence they would be given the leeway that the masses would not be.

Plus, it gives him a better chance to add later fun encounters and plot twists, plus it guives him a way to reign in player behavior

True. BUT, because no-one want to piss her off, any char with some faith in any god should be tempted to appease her before a sea voyage.

Sailors or travelers will observe superstitious rituals and 'sign themselves' or drop a copper into the pool at the shrine of Umberlee as they pass. There may be a totemic item nailed to the mast or someone may place a seaweed leaf in their pocket. A Paladin born near the sea may even unconciously chant a children's rhyme under his/her breathe, begging her pardon.

And the pious will certainly mumble their own prayers to their gods in addition, but some respect is paid to all Gods in pantheon religious societies.

Even the truly bad Gods get their respect whenever a person asks their own deity for protection when passing one of the baddies shrines. That fear is respect to them.

The common masses, who do not actively worship a particular God, give them their due anyway through prayer and fear and therefore gain benefits or avoid punishment.

PCs that blithely ignore all but one Deity, or the opposing alignments Deities, are drawing attention to themselves.

Curious tho.

I'm not familiar with Chameleon, but for a Bard, it sounds like the RPG equiv of 'The Pretender'.

If so, couldn't you mimic the general perception of what a Cleric is? This would pass general inspection until you could get better data. Like ST said. People know what Clerics are.

You wouldn't stand up against knowledgable inspection.......unleeeess your DM has a sense of humor and has seen movies like We're No Angels

It may work even better in some area as you will be playing up to the steroetype of what a group expects a Cleric to be like, instead of what they are.
