It seems alot of people hate the idea of a WOW like D&D Im one of them. It doenst suprise me that the designers would deny they like it, play it, or anything else. They are a company and out to make money. They would say D&D could make world peace if they thought it woulsd sell one more copy. DOnt get my wrong, I actually like WOTC but to believe they arent trying to appeal to the WOW fan base while keeping what they already got is just blindness in my opinion.

On a side note guild wars actually looks fun. Just couldnt figure out if there was a story to it. Im into video games for the story first, and i could never decipher there being one.

They are trying to appeal to the WoW fan base?

One of the major changes in the "tone" of the game is making D&D less focused on magic items. I don't think that will appeal to the WoW players at all. Another change in the "tone" are encounters with more monsters. That will sure appeal to Diablo 2 players, not WoW players.

WOTC plans are to make D&D better. I don't think they make meetings to discuss how to bring WoW players to D&D, or ask to each other "hey mike, do you think if we add that rule, WoW player will enjoy it?". That sounds absurd! In a conspiracy theory that would sound interesting, but in a pratical situation it makes no sense.

One of the reasons 9 million people play WoW is because it's so easy to play it. You don't need to read about rules, settings, character backgrounds, etc; find other players, someone to DM, etc. All you need to do is to sit by the PC and log in.

If they make D&D better by making it easier to just start playing it, smoother and more playable for everyone (people that love rules, people that hate them, roll and role players); if they make it easier to find other people to play D&D via DNDInsider; D&D will surely appeal much more to everyone, and not just WoW players.

I don't know how many times I posted these arguments, hell IS repetition.

So, they're liars? That's a pretty tacky accusation to make over a non-issue.

And the amount of people who scream about stuff on a message board has little relation to how many people feel a certain way in silence.

After all, the game with 9.5 million current players isn't D&D, but a whole lot of WoW players are aware of and interested in D&D. My guild discussed 4E in chat for about an hour earlier this week.

Mearls said that he doesn't like WoW, but I just bet he's played Guild Wars.
Let's see... every class has resource management, but it doesn't carry over from one encounter to the next... warriors play very differently depending on which weapon they use... some classes specialize in moving past enemy defensive lines to strike vulnerable targets... multiclass characters are viable and typically use synergistic combinations of skills rather than filling two roles poorly... spellcasters get an unlimited supply of minor enemy-zapping in addition to resource-consuming spells... gaining a level powers up your existing skills rather than replacing them with almost-the-same-but-better versions...

You might be on to something. ;)
