Young Writer looking for experience opportunities

Hey there, my name is Nathan Mangion and I'm a 21-year old English lit. student from Malta (a small island in the Mediterranean Sea, in case anyone's wondering!). I've been writing modules and adventures for D&D for around 8 years and the D20 system since it appeared on the market. I write most things for own pleasure as well as my own RP group, but I have been known to write things for 'outsiders' (usually stuff for Planescape, and recently Eberron).

My favourite campaign setting is by far Planescape, though the imagery and tone of the Dark Sun setting also captivates me, and most of the adventures I write are designed for these settings. Having said this, I would like to think of myself as adaptable and open-minded, willing to contribute to any setting that I find interesting (almost anything, in other words!).

I'm currently writing my own campaign setting in my free time. The world itself has no particular flavour or tone, other than harsh terrain, physical corruption (in the form of taint) and various cultures drawn (and embellished by own warped imagination) from historical references (for instance; Ankgor, ancient Egypt and especially Babylonian cultures, to name but a few). I have around 750,000 words put down so far, but there's probably twice that running around in my head at this point in time!

I’m looking for some experience with a company/individual/group of people who are willing to give me a try and I am more than willing to contribute anything I can offer to non-paying sources, such as E-zines.
Thank you for your time,
Nathan

Please, please, please don't take this the wrong way. I've only been writing professionally for about four years myself, and I don't begrudge anyone the opportunity to try to get their foot in the door. But...

If you want to get people's attention as a writer, you really need to follow basic rules of English. And that includes capitalization. The fact that this is a messageboard, and not a formal project, doesn't matter. This post is the first impression you're going to make, and it needs to be a good one.

I'm not trying to be a downer, here. That's the single best piece of advice I can give, based on what I've seen so far. Correct that, and I'll be happy to offer additional suggestions.

Nalfeshnee, your post above looks much better but there are still a few small things.

My advice--for any text you write for some professional purpose (such as your posts in this thread), write it up in MS Word or whatever and spellcheck it before posting or sending it anywhere. The latest versions of Word correct a lot of the little problems many people have when writing (not just spelling mistakes).

Editing and proofreading it with your own eyes after you do the spellcheck is advisable (read absolutely necessary) too.

Good luck :)

And as for finding work, you'll have a much better chance by being proactive rather than waiting for someone to knock on your door. The RPG industry is full of freelancers looking for work. There are several opportunities listed on this very board, and there are some on RPG.net's freelance board, which also has a section for companies looking for people who are willing to work for free.

Good luck!
