Your favorite nonstandard races?

Kenku are way cool and don't have to be east asian either.

I have in my Polynesian area where their native habitat is cliff caves overlooking the sea. I love the image of masses of them crawling out over the cliffs and then some of them suddenly leaping off and soaring out to attack approaching ships

I like the Killoren (Races of the Wild) and Shifters (Eberron). They've both got limited shapechanging ability which can augmented by feats.

Shifters

These are replacing my need for wild or wood elves. They fit in the wilderness better, have a great tie to nature and animals, and fun abilities and feats for them. They are probably my favorite race even including the core ones.

Where is the Githyanki love?! Without a doubt my favorite nonstandard race. I always thought they deserved a -2 to Intelligence or Charisma instead of Wisdom thus making them better psychic warriors but that's just me.

I always liked the Pevishan from Mythic Races. the entire writeup is available on the website.

I'll second the Anpur from Green Ronin's Hamunaptra setting. Much more interesting and aesthetically pleasing than a simple gnoll. Also available for download.

I'd like to find a way to make Rakshasa playable as a PC race but if not I'd be content with finding a place for them in the setting.


I like Changelings and Shifters from Eberron but I'm not sure that I'd allow them as is. The Changeling needs additional support and feats and several of the Shifter's hybrid forms are a bit weird IMO.

Duergar are cool but need additional support and can be one dimensional if played as written. I love the fact that they are assumed to be psionicaly inclined.

Hamunaptra is an implicit part of the world, which is basically designed at a kitbash of published settings.
