Luminous (Mythic races). Played one in an Oathbound game
I've had players pick warforged (Eberron CS/MMIII/Dragon 318?) .

I have a Luminous Paladin introduced in one of my Eberron games and they are just so different that it is fun to role play. I am working on creating a version that are the opposite- beings of negative energy.

As an Eberron enthusist I of course support the Warforged. I just fear they will be be the next Drow. So over played I decide not to include in any adventures.

"Human with one tiny physical difference" is boring. That means you, Maenads, Elans, Illumians, Karsites, etc. It's so "Star Trek" where all the aliens are humans with a funny nose.

What you could say here is that they are all, in effect, humans, save that they have regional differences. Those regions that they are from caused minor evolutionary differences.

I think most of the races I enjoy have been mentioned, but here's a few thoughts.

Dark Sun races (Thri-Kreen, muls, half-giants [with changing alignment!], etc.) - You could use these to populate desert regions.

Mystara races (Tortle and Lupin especially)

Arcana Evolved races

Races sourcebooks - I'm not too terribly excited by the new races, but they're okay. I like the illumians and goliaths well enough. I really don't like the raptorans, but that's just me.

And, of course, the Dragonlance races rocketh mightily. I am, of course, biased. ;)

My recommendation would be to pick up Mythic Races, which has a lot of great race ideas.

I'm rather fond of goblins and orcs. Centaurs a re a blast as well. I had a good time playing a Drider Paladin once, though some of his natural abilities were wasted as a result of his choice to abandon Lolth in favor of a good deity. (Well, look what she did to him!?!) ...he did have certain trust issues, but he was working on it.

Nobody loves them any Races of the Dragon, eh? Well, beyond kobolds, anyways.

Actually, I quite like the dragonborn. They are unique and have a flavor reason to be very rare, yet, can easily appear as PC's. It's another one I've forgotten.

...characters that mostly resemble humans will be popular choices... Many players like creatures that are near human but not.
I've been having fun recently playing a neanderthal from Frostburn. He's very thick (Int 3) and comes from a different culture from the other characters in the party which makes for some interesting/amusing RP situations.

Incidentally, the Player's Companion published by Technomancer Press includes 3.5 rules for half 'n' half combinations of all the PHB races.

Well, Book of Templates: Deluxe Edition 3.5 has a similar tool, but really, I am not all too fond of the assumption that anything that moves can breed in D&D. IMC, most half breeds beyond the core ones will probably occur only with the help of magic. Even those that do appear aren't populous enough to be too likely to establish their own cultural regions.
