What are they, where are they and why?
Silverthorne's BOT (DE):
1) Half-humanoid template makes the top of my list for the simple reason it has 3 parts- half-humans, humanoid critters (e.g. winter wolves and centipedes), and how to water down abilities so that the half template you want to apply doesn't build a half and whole creature. Each is useful in its own way. The humanoid critters portion is esp useful in Gamma World.
2) Necrovore allows me a viable control on the number of undead that doesn't require tons of adventurers running around.
3) Non-Euclidean gives a excellent punch to Lovecraftian horrors. It is also has been useful in sci-fi horror games. The creature I see it best used with is the phase spider.
4) Since I dislike the great wheel and only use the inner planes, the Elemental template is a godsend.
5) Constructs are generally important to my worlds and the Ablative Construct is used for those beginning in creating them. You don't just suddenly learn how to build a golem- it should take years.
6) I found a replacement for the shade with the Shadowborne.
Atlas' PFB:
7) Child of the Dark/Child of the Light are an awesome look at a very alien organism. I have been comtemplating using them in Gamma World.
8) Possessed Construct replaces the lich in worlds without undead (or undead that are not created by mortal hands).
9) Skinwalker replaces werecreatures in primitive worlds.
Bastion's Complete Minions:
10) The Crowd is perfect for many horror games. I have also altered it into a hivemind creature that only consumes those about to die to preserve their knowledge.
Bastion's Alchemy & Herbalists
11) The Kin'o'the Green is a nice alternative to classes like the verdant lord. It also ties into the Plantform template from the BOT (DE).
MM III
12) Living Spell is simply an awesome idea. I haven't used them yet, but I will somehow.
