Your favorite templates

I don't own as many books as the rest of you, evidently. But my two favourite templates are: Vampire (MM) and Medieval King (MMS:WE). I love the point in the king template which states he can cure disease but only if it's scrofula.

I love using templates not to create a half-thingie, but to create a new creature altogether, so that a half-gold dragon heavy warhorse is not the spawn of a dragon and a horse, but is rather a horse-shaped dragon that serves as steed for paladins.

That said, I just love the Folkloric Fey template from Van Richten's Guide to the Shadow Fey. You can apply it to almost any creature and it becomes a supernatural creature from the realm of fey. It has a very fairy tale feel to it.

What the heck- I don't see a point in starting a new thread when I can just add to this one:

For some reason I didn't read the Oxeph Host in Template Troves I. Now I have another good illithid alternative. The fact they are slaves to the aboleth makes it even better. And the skoth (advanced skum) and lenkag

TT2: Bloodseeker, Guardscale, Necromantic ooze, Spiritscale, and Waterscale

From the 3.5 version of the BOT: the legion and puppetter ooze (and host)

Advanced Bestiary: Creature swarm, Amalgam, Flesh plant, Jotunblood giant, Monsterous lycanthrope, Savant and Warmachine

Bodies and Souls: Bonesmith, Cutter, and Insect scion

Hopefully TT 3 will be out soon.

Might as well update my list now that I've got Advanced Bestiary:

My favorites:
Amalgam (AB)
Blood Knight (AB)
Dread Bodak (AB)
Clockwork Creature (AB)
Flesh Plant (AB)
Eldritch (Monsternomicon)
Iron Lich (Monsternomicon)
Lich (MM3.5)
Corrupted Creature (BoVD)
Death Knight (my own homebrewed version, here)
Evolved Undead (Libris Mortis)
Living Spell (ECS/MMIII)
Skeleton Warrior (Tome of Horrors)
Spellstitched (MMII/CA)
Swarm Shifter (Libris Mortis)

The Amalgam template in AB is so much fun. I use it whenever I have an excuse to create new and awful things, like dinosaurian ogres and girillithids (just as awful as it sounds).

Other templates I like:
Flesh Plant (AB)
Corrupted Creature (BoVD)
Bone and Corpse Creature (BoVD)
Spellwarped (MMIII)
Spellstiched (CArc)
Hooded Pupil (LM. Basically, it allows you to make Renfield in D&D terms)

Demiurge out.

My favorite template, bar none:

Multiheaded (Savage Species): its +2LA per extra head (#heads determined by size, 1 for a Medium creature), +2HD/Head, +2 bonuses to your spot, search and listen checks. Because each head controls an arm seperately, it eliminates 2wf penalties (functionally, Superior 2WF feat). The template also awards Improved Initiative and Combat Reflexes as bonus feats.

And there's more.

For +1LA you can add Cryo or Pyro, which gives both a breath weapon AND the appropriate resistance to an energy type.

For +2LA, you can add the Learnean feature, which means your PC or beast will be extremely hard to kill.

Amalgam is neat, but I do also like Tauric. I've made some neat Tauric creatures I liked, though I haven't actually used them... For some reason, I really like the Winged Template. It's very simple and wings are cool.

I've used a large number of them, but I don't have any besides Tauric that I consider to be my 'favorite.' I do have a friend, however, who is virtually obsessed with Lich and Half-Dragon. Guess what? He LOVES Dragons and Undead. ;)
