Your favourite D20 publisher and why

DISCLAIMER: Please do not post why you dislike a company, I just wish to know which comapny you like the best and why. This is a positive thread!

I have really liked AEG for their Rokugan sourcebooks, which I think are great stuff, and I have only seen one of Avalanche's products (Jade & Steel), but if the rest are anything like it I cannot wait to get them. But, the standout for me, is Mongoose. Both the Quintessential series and the Encylcopedia Arcane series are tremendous!

Honorable mentions: Necromancer Games, Natural 20, and Malhavoc.

So, who are your favourites and why?

Green Ronin takes top honours for me. Book of the Righteous is simply the best theology book for role-playing I have yet seen, and Freeport is the standout city book at present.

Privateer Press has been outstanding, although their line-up is a little thin to make final judgement on. The Monsternomicon is certainly one of the most fun monster books yet.

Sword and Sorcery Scarred Lands and Necromancer Games line-ups have been very worthy too

AEG is certainly maintaining quality with a heavy release schesule.

I am enjoying stuff from Atlas Games, Malhavoc, Mongoose

I guess the prestigious and coveted "BFG Publisher of 2002" first place award goes to SSS's Scarred Lands products based on the fact that I use ( for game play VS. reading material ) them more than any other publishers stuff.

This isn't an accident either. I use their products because they:

1) Have an original, detailed setting
2) Support and update the setting on a consistent basis
3) I can actually find their stuff at my LGS
4) Most products are written very well
5) Great FLUFF ( yes I said "Fluff" - OK? )

While many publishers "fit any campaign" approach is a logical approach to the diverse d20 market, SOME just miss the mark IMHO, proving the old adage about attempting to please everyone, and ending up pleasing no one ( any by no one I mean me! )

PS: Give Nightfall a raise

edit: me no spell gud

this may be the oddest type of praise..

i'd have to go with SSS as well, even though i've never used any of their products, nor plan to in the future.

the reason why i like them is that they fill a giant demand for a type of DnD that im not interested in very much, but that i'm utterly glad to see being done. :)

it may not be for me, but i'm glad they're doing it as well as they are. good job guys!

My favourite publisher is Necromancer Games .
Why? They are a niche publisher that has me as their target audience. Plus, they have cool message boards, nice product support (not as much as they used to have, unfortunately) and they are publishing Judges Guild material!

I would also recommend Fiery Dragon and Troll Lord.

I'm casting my "Favorite d20 company" vote for Mongoose Publishing.

Mongoose's "Encyclopedia Arcane" and "Encyclopedia Divine" series are utter perfection on how to introduce a new and exotic type of magic into your game. They manage to fit every conceivable aspect of a new system of magic into a single book, make it all wonderfully non-campaign specific, as well as easy to understand and incredibly interesting. A DM can easily bring them into a new campaign world with little problem to expand the horizons of magic.

Indeed, that generally goes for everything they put out (those two series are my absolute favorites though). Mongoose just has a way of taking a good idea and making it truly great, from new ships to sail the seas to fleshing out "generic" monsters to expanding on old PC classes to exploring new planes! They make something for everyone, and they do a lot of it too.

For me, the choice is obvious: Mongoose all the way!

Riki Tiki Tavi! (sorry, I couldn't resist any longer)

I got a split between 2: Thunderhead/MEG games (bluffside is the City of Greyhawk for 3E) and Bastion Press (Oathbound & Arms and Armor). both companies put out great material and am anticipating more..shame there isn't more stuff out there to pick up :(

Well, there's Wizards of the Coast, because they made the game, and publish excellent material. However, Wizards products can be hit or miss. Still, since WotC made the rules, I gotta give them credit.

My next favorite is Bad Axe Games. They make affordable books that are jam-packed with crunchy-bits, and the crunchy bits are all balanced, original, anc cool. Also, I got HoHF: Dwarves for free, so that's a definite plus.

There's Fiery Dragon, who makes great adventures. Nature's Fury and To Stand On Hallowed Ground contain two great adventures EACH. Further's there's they make awesome counters drawn by Claudio Pozas. Further, they made the best damn 1st level adventure ever, Of Sound Mind, written by Piratecat.

Lastly, there's Malhavoc Press, who puts out affordable, cool products on the internet, like Banewarrens, BoEM, BoEMII, and ITCK. However, I don't think their latest products are all that great.

Gotta be Mongoose, if for the Encyclopedia Arcane series by itself. Honerable mention goes to MEG for the Nightmare and Dreams books, i would love to get The Hunt but it just doesn't fit my current game or future plans.
