Burn Notice.

Just a fun show, and the main character's so clever. Most episodes he ends up turning the bad guys against one another, scams them out of more money (to give back to their victims) than they had scammed themselves in the first place, etc... Probably my favorite two examples were when he pretended to be a doctor during a bank hostage situation he was stuck in to get close to the bad guys and subtly sabotage their guns and equipment, and when they kidnapped one brother of a pair of kidnappers and used him to ransom for the release of the person they had been trying to ransom themselves all along. He's also pretty good with MacGuyvering tools and explosives, though that aspect's been used less the last few seasons.

My all time favorite would be probably Battlestar Galactica, the other contenders being The Wire and Deep Space Nine.

I considered The Walking Dead (I guess it's current), but after six episodes (not all as good as the first couple) I'm not sold. Breaking Bad intrigues me but I haven't seen it yet, nor have I seen Game of Thrones. Community is close but I'm not a comedy guy. House used to be up there but it isn't what it used to be. There's a fair number of excellent but not transcendently great shows (e.g. Castle, Burn Notice, Fringe), but I wonder if the truly top quality television hasn't taken a dip recently (or if I'm just missing something). I'd take the Daily Show over the Colbert Report, but I watch both.

My currently running favorite (to actually answer the OP) is probably Treme.
It tackles a tough subject with grace and has a similar sense of authenticity to The Wire. The way music is incorporated into the show is really unique and entertaining.

Star Trek.

I started watching it when I was four. My tastes have changed, my horizons have expanded, and my critical faculties have --hopefully--- increased, but I... I just can't quit you, Kirk, Spock and McCoy.

Current? I dunno, I have trouble picking "favorites". I like Big Bang Theory, Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead.

All time is tough, too. ST:DS9, Alias, Prison Break, X-Files, Stargate SG-1.

My answer can only be Doctor Who. I find it joyful, exuberant, and utterly lacking in cynicism. There's simply no other show that I look forward to more, or get as excited about when a new episode is about to appear.

As <!-- BEGIN TEMPLATE: dbtech_usertag_mention -->@Viking Bastard <!-- END TEMPLATE: dbtech_usertag_mention -->alluded to, above, it is the only show which gives me that sense of wonder I had when I was a kid. I enjoy plenty of other shows, for plenty of different reasons, but this one is special, magical, and, frankly, wonderful.

Game of Thrones, mostly because I'm a huge geek for for all things Westerosi.

Beyond that, Daily Show edges out Colbert, if only because I like the variety of correspondents on TDS.
