Well, they're both "fake news" shows that center around parodical use of existing news footage and thoughtful but entertaining banter and have celebrity guest interviews at the end. Both have more news content than most actual "news programs" and incorporate opinion without being dogmatic or deceptive. Not infrequently, they will touch on the same issues of the day with a similar slant. There are certainly differences between the two shows, but I think it's fair to compare them.Interesting that a few people have mentioned Colbert Report in comparison to the Daily Show. I think I've only ever seen the Daily Show a couple of times and if it's the show I'm recalling, then the two seem to be entirely different shows. Certainly ones that I wouldn't put in the same category.
Both have accomplished enough and have won enough awards to pop up in a "best on tv" thread.
