Your favourite TV show and why?

For current shows, I have to go with Leverage. The capers tend to be contrived, but the interactions between the characters are great. "Pretzels..." ;)

Interesting that a few people have mentioned Colbert Report in comparison to the Daily Show. I think I've only ever seen the Daily Show a couple of times and if it's the show I'm recalling, then the two seem to be entirely different shows. Certainly ones that I wouldn't put in the same category.

A favorite TV show? Current? Uhhhh, hmmm.

Current TV is a vast wasteland for the limited channels I can watch. I guess a local PBS station's running of WWII in Color recently has been by far my favorite program. I'm a fan of WWII history, though.

As for past, I'll have to go with Nova. (I haven't been particularly impressed with recent Nova episodes.)

It's Doctor Who for me as well. Not only is it an excellent show, but I actually owe my marriage to it. (The first dates that my wife and I ever went on - not that either of us realized it at the time - were when we carpooled to Doctor Who conventions in Chicago to save gas during the 20th anniversary of the show. We got married the following year, and are still married some 27 years later. And we both still love the show.)

A current TV show I enjoy is Breaking Bad. It had a premiss I hadn't seen before, though I hear it is similar to Weeds. The acting, writing, and direction is really bringing the concept to life.

I must admit I've never got the appeal of that show. It's like Hustle (but less clever) combined with the A-Team (but less charismatic). I know it has its fans, though. It's not bad (don't get me wrong) but it's - in my opinion - a long, long way from being great. It's mediocre. But then, the entire world thinks Steven King and JK Rowling are good authors, so who am I to tell?

50th anniversary in 2013! I bet there's something special planned. :)

Heh. That whole Leverage vs Hustle thing, I feel the same way you do, except the other way around. Hustle was fun in the first seasons and then, it wasn't. :)

Leverage irritates me. The plots are so incredibly contrived it's painful to watch and the results of their scams are rarely logical; I often find myself in stunned disbelief that their 'plans' worked, because logically there is zero connection between what they did and what happened.

Being an MMA fan, I'm also not keen on the Wahlberg wannabe who is the 'muscle'. At 5'10" with a build that would barely put him into featherweight contention, he's outwrestling 6' plus LHW's.

Then there's the two 'grifter' characters. Gina Bellman has two accents and both are bad. And everyone says Timothy Hutton is some great actor yet he has one alternate personality he uses to grift and it's almost identical to the one he 'acts'.

Yet... I still watch it every episode. I like the characters and their dialogue is often amusing. If the series got canned tomorrow, I wouldn't complain, but as long as it's showing, I'll keep watching it.

Oh, I agree it's not great, but I do enjoy it. Characters are like food - everyone's tastes are different. I have a friend who raves about Psych, but I just can't stand the main character, so I pass on it.

The more I think about it, however, I really should change my pick. I completely forgot about Castle (what can I say...my memory's not what it used to be). :) Very good show, good writing, not a single character I don't like. The past season wasn't their best, but Castle and Becket have great chemistry. Can't wait for the next season.
