Your first car

We Americans love our cars. What was your first car? Not counting the farm trucks or my mom's car that I drove in high school, the first car that was MINE ALL MINE was a 1978 2-door Dodge Aspen. I bought it the summer of 1982 and immediately threw a roaring stereo into it. My friends named it Grog (I don't know why to this day).

A previous owner had replaced the front seats with a reclining split bench unit. Whoever you were, thank you. And Tammy, Beverly, Greta, Dawn, and Sandra, if you're out there somewhere, thanks for the memories.

My grandma's Old 1992 Ford Taurus.

Still own it.

"I'll never buy Ford again" My grandmother upon giving me that car, 60+ years of brand loyalty down the drain. I won't even mention the LTD wagon we had growing up.

Actually, due to my entire family's miserable experiences with Ford in the 80's and 90's. We all have ageed to never buy a Ford again.

(I hear they've made improvements), but $20,000 plus to see if it's true is a steep price.

The Starsky and Hutch Torino. Except mine was black and had opera windows. Those babies could haul ass!

OMG...I knew a girl who had one of the red and white ones w/out the windows. An exact copy that Ford offered for awhile... that thing ROCKED!

A 1990 Toyota Corolla. It was sitting in the parking lot of Clark AFB in the Philippines when Mt. Pinatubo blew. It was completely covered in ash. They uncovered it, cleaned it out and it still ran like a champ. I've been a Toyota fan ever since and I own a Highlander now. :D

Mine was a '66 Corvair, like this but red. Cost $400 used in 1985 or 86. Parking break was shot so I had a piece of wood I would carry around with me and put under my tire. Turn signal handle was jury-rigged from a piece of fishing rod. Automatic gear shift was an up/down slider on the dash board. No radio. Engine was in the rear. Finally froze up on me about a year later and just gave it away. Worked out pretty well over all.

Since then I have owned all used cars: a Ford Thunderbird, a Mercury Tracer, and now a Saturn Whatevertheheckitis.

My first car was a 1976 AMC Hornet. So obscure, same manufacturer as the Gremlin.
Took me 2 months to get it running (just needed clean carburator, but I tried everything else first).... then I rolled it after about 3 more months.

Second car was 1972 Pontiac Ventura Sprint II (pontiac version of a NOVA). I was very cool then, as the car was very fast.
