Age 7-9 First wave of boardgames for me. RISK chief among them
Age 10-13 First wave of RPGs, very diverse. Melee/wizard, AD&D1, The Fantasy Trip, Traveller, Top Secret, Boot Hill, Gamma World, a couple we made ourselves.
Hiatus
Age 15-18 AD&D 1
Age 18-21 2nd wave of boardgames
Hiatus
Age 28-present My brother sent me the box of old minis he painted during the first wave of RPGs. 3e, 3.5e, M&M, Savage Worlds, 4e, Reaper minis wargames (and lots of mini painting).

I'm pretty well pared back to 4e and M&M at this point, tho I'll play another RPG at cons or gamedays.

PS

I may be off on my dates somewhat. This is my primary gaming. There were a heck of a lot of other games (Thieve's World, Rolemaster, Traveller, TMNT, BattleTech/Mechwarrior...) mixed in through the years.

1980-1983 Basic/Expert D&D
1982-1989 AD&D
1989-2000 AD&D 2e
2000-2005 3e
2006-2007 Midnight
2009-present Hero System (5th edition)

Near future - preparing for D&D 4e with my kids - I will probably use the Essentials line to start them and myself out on 4e.

1979 (Christmas): Holmes Blue Box.

Circa 1980: AD&D 1e, starting with the PHB, then DMG, then MM. During the period that followed, I also played FASA Star Trek and Dr. Who, Traveller, Twilight 2000, Gamma World, Villians & Vigilantes, Champions, and other systems.

1989: 2e D&D.

Circa 1996: Hiatus. Not surprisingly, the majority of my published fiction was written during the hiatus period.

2000: 3e. Never went to 3.5e. Interest in other games, including many D20 variations (M&M, Deadlands, Gamma World, frex).

Circa 2005/6: Began to consider a serious rewrite of the 3e system. Bits and pieces posted on EN World, or published in Dragon Roots Magazine.

2007/2008: Interest in 4e announcement & release made me reconsider strongly what it was I wanted from a gaming system.

Current: Playtesting RCFG. Final version LONG overdue. I have the Cubicle 7 Dr. Who, but have not had a chance to run it yet.

RC

I'll just list the major campaigns:

1981-1988 1E plus some CoC
1989-1992 2E with a heaping help of 1E, plus some Shadowrun and a little GURPS
1992-1993 Torg! Plus some homebrew rules.
1994-1999 Mostly played Magic, but there were some very short GURPS, 2E+PO, and homebrew campaigns
2000-2007 3E, 3.5E, and Arcana Unearthed in various quanities
2008-2009 SWSE
2010 Mainly boardgames and Dominion.

If I listed all the "one shots", it would be incredibly long. Oftentimes our "one shots" are many game sessions long, but never intended to be a campaign. Those would include 4E, FATE, ICONS this year alone. I couldn't recall all those since 1981.

I think the point isn't that it's possible to find the information but that this international community shouldn't automatically be expected to be au fait with American culture.

Looked to me like someone wanted a quick cultural-translation guide, so I linked to one. It probably comes in handy for people in the USA who haven't been in grade school in a long time to help sorting out the years and grades.

1991: Basic (15th print)
1991-1996: 2E weekly, sometimes more
1996-2000: Not reading/playing any (college)
Late 2000: ~4-6 games of 3E (DM moved away, game ended)
2001-2008: Not reading/playing any (new job)
2008-early 2009: Reading 1E/4E, not playing (looking for players)
March 2009-March 2010: ~100 hours of 4E, reading O/AD&D 1E
March 2010+: O/AD&D 1E (finally found players)

Age 33 - Update my homebrew fantasy game to 2.5, using some 4e ideas, play very few LFR 4e games
Age 34 - Update my homebrew to 3.0, eliminating most of D&D and Saga
ties. Made a Rogue Trader character, never played.
Age 35 - Current. Working on my homebrew's 4th edition, now a fully
original OGL compliant game

1979, age 11 - Blue box basic D&D
then AD&D
Then back to a different Basic D&D
Then back to AD&D
2nd Edition
2nd Edition with Players Option
3rd Edition
3.5
Currently playing in a Pathfinder game, would probably run either a 3.5 or Pathfinder game if I were still DMing

Minor dabbles in other TSR/WOTC games such as Top Secret, Gamma World, and Alternity along the way.

No real interest in following D&D further as it develops, and no interest in other systems.

1981 AD&D 1e/OD&D

1989-90 Picked up AD&D 2e, hated what they did with the classes, and
the pc stuff, so went back to 1e, ended up with a mishmash of
1e/2e.

2000 3e, played it, loved it, until 3.5, which pissed off my group
immensely, found it to be way too much bookkeeping at mid to
high levels and the numbers inflated too much over AD&D for
no reason except to make the numbers bigger.

2003-10 Tried several different systems, among them Torg, C&C,
Runequest, Conan D20, none of them stuck. Returned to 1e
AD&D, mixed in a WFRP v2 campaign or three, and an odd one
shot Cthulhu now and then.

2010 - Currently playing Pathfinder, with a WFRP 2 on hold, and an
AD&D 1e on the horrizon.
