Your group's tributes to Gary

I rolled a set of stats that night that I will use to play my next D&D character.

Unfortunately I have no idea how long that will be until I get to start... I seem to be a little between gaming groups... scheduling issues.

I might just run an *oldskool* game for my nieces instead...

* 3.5e
* 3d6 in order
* Fighter, Cleric, Wizard, or Rogue
* Human, Elf, Dwarf, or Halfling
* Multi-level dungeon with deathtraps and slightly above CR monsters

Goodtimes!

I'm going to run my group through the 1st ed Tomb of Horrors, complete with the nameless (how fitting!) pregenerated NPCs in the back. I figure it won't take long for a TPK, and we can then proceed to the planned game of the evening.

We were also considering making a drinking game out of it in lieu of a formal toast. Something like a drink for every pit trap, a drink for every cliched line ("I search for traps!"), and killing the drink when your PC dies. More suggestions for the "Tomb of Horrors: The Drinking Game" are of course welcome!

No date yet, but my buddies and I are doing B2 using the OD&D rules and, yes, we're using 3d6 in order. Though what I think is really going to scare them is rolling for hit points at first level!

The dungeon crawls are few and far between in the campaign I'm running, but in a bit of serendipity the party ended last weekend's session on the doorstep of a very old-school dungeon. So we'll be dungeon-crawling, and I do plan to set out an extra chair and observe a moment of silence (amount of time determined randomly).

besides the centipede, i have to make a cleric npc for tomorrows game.

maybe he can be a "cleric of gygax" or something (have someone looked at the hackmaster "gods" book? (cant remember the name). it have some info for gary as god

I plan to run my party through the Tomb of Horrors as a tribute to Gary. We'll be using the updated 3.5E version that WotC put out a couple of years ago so it won't quite be as authentic as the original but I think it will be a fitting tribute nevertheless.

On Monday our gaming group will be drinking Moutain Dew, and eating Cheetos.
We're going to use OD&D rules and crawl through either Keep on the Borderlands, Ghost Tower of Inverness, or Keep on the Borderlands.
Stats will be generated with 3d6 in order.
Halfling, Elf and Dwarf will be both Class and Race.
There will be 1d6 minutes of silence.
Old character sheets will be dusted off and many gaming stories will be shared.

We've got an old folder full of classic gaming quotes, and stupid plans theat we're going to recreate for our newbies to enjoy.
We're a mixed generational group, so I imagine some of the "young'uns" will be a might confused by our Fighting Men with Glaive-Guisarmes, our ten foot poles, and "kobold trap detectors"

When we have killed all the monsters and taken all their stuff, we will retire to an Inn to quaff ale, and roll on the Random Prostitute table.

Good times, good friends and good memories ... all thanks to EGG!

Rather than run a game with my usual group this weekend, I've decided to run one for some of the neighborhood kids my son is friends with-expose a new generation to wonders Gary created. Professionally, I've decided to donate all proceeds from this Saturday's FDG sales to his favorite charity, the Christian Children's Fund.

We are setting up a dungeon crawl for Saturday. I at least will have a drink that contemplates gin in his honor. There will be an empty chair and a table with my 1E DMG, PH and MM as well as Keep on the Borderlands (he wrote it and it's the first Gygax adventure I ever ran for someone) right next to it. I think I may take up a collection for his favorite charity. There will be toasts. Dice will roll and fall. Monsters will appear, maps will be mapped, dialogue will occur, and we will go late into the night. I will ask that everyone retire a d20 in his honor, in case a memorial is ever made so that we may all go leave one there. This is all a momentary honor.

Play the game. Always. That's the best memorial there could ever be.
