D&D General Your last adventure in photos.

The set-up for the last game was that the party was imprisoned in the hold of their own pirate ship and their cpatain had been kidnapped, with some sort of terrible ceremony to happen at dawn. The evil-doers were led by the BBEG's lieutenant, an orc monk named Redhand. But the party had access to quite a bit of stuff down in the hold, including gunpowder and the artificer's submersible (an Apparatus of Kwalish named "the Crab Bucket") that they had been tinkering on for some time. The goblin artificer, played by my spouse, has HIGH intelligence and LOW wisdom, and this is the plan they presented to the rest of the party at the start of the session:

Believe it or not, this is actually a fairly close image of the final scene of my last session.

And the blue giant is actually our PC warlock after a rather unfortunate wild surge due to the phaesress (sp) of the Underdark. (He rolled a 97, then a 6 which triggers all the following effects: Enlarge, grow a beard of feathers, blows pink bubbles, can only speak by shouting, and turn blue. The floating eyeball is the rather startled spectator they were fighting.

The party managed to use a (somewhat) unexpected backdoor entrance to the BBEG's lair, though they did have to get past an Eye of the Deep. Then they had to break up the evil ceremony to wrap up the first arc of the campaign.

I typically design encounters based on miniatures that I want to use, and the sea giant, atropal, and eye of the deep are three favourites.
